Mitsubishi Continues Growth, Expands Production Facilities BY DAVID HAYES

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Machinery Systems Ltd (MHI- MS) has seen strong business growth during the past two years in spite of the disruption the pandemic has creat- ed around the world. An unexpected 60 percent leap in paper packaging machinery sales in 2021 prompted the company to expand the unit assembly line and test area in its Mihara plant near Hiroshima in western Japan. “We received a lot of orders during the pandemic,” said Yasushi Kitahara, Senior Vice President and Head of Sales in Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Machinery Systems Ltd’s Printing & Packaging Machinery Headquarters. “During the first half of 2020, as the pandemic began spreading, things were quiet as no one knew what was happening; but by summer 2020, vaccines became available, controls to prevent the spread of Covid had been introduced and our customers began planning their future strategy. Sud- denly, we had many orders for our corrugators and EVOL all at once, so we decided to expand our Mihara plant FFG unit assembly line and shop testing areas.” New Equipment In addition to expanding FFG production facilities, MHI- MS has introduced new corrugating and converting equip- ment technology in response to customer requests for higher performance machines and improved production efficiency. Among recent developments, MHI-MS has upgraded its corrugating machinery capability with the introduc- tion of the New Global Corrugator (NGC) in 2020, which is designed for high speed operation with gapless order change. The NGC was developed as a double knife corru- gator for the European market and the international mar- ket as an advanced Steady Stater series model.

In 2022, the U.S. Department of commerce put ecom- merce revenue over $1 trillion dollars for the first time ever, growing 7.7 percent year over year. As retailers demand higher-quality, more complex and visually pleasing boxes, the G-Grafix line delivers highest quality die cut and graph- ics with reliability, and productivity. The G-Grafix line delivers quality boxes that help retail- ers to create a branded message on the inside of a box to take the consumer experience to the next level whether to build their brand awareness, or maintain customer loy- alty, drive affiliate marketing, or create social media con- tent with the trendiest unboxing videos. The packaging is the first reflection of the quality of the brand, and retailers expect boxes that do more than deliver the product safe- ly to the consumer; they want them to be wowed by the experience.
