The introduction of the MC 100 has created strong in- terest for specific needs in different countries. MHI-MS or- ganised a three-day open house event in the Mihara plant in December 2021 which attracted about 200 guests. In terms of energy saving, the MC 100 uses 13 percent less energy than the EVOL. In addition to energy cost sav-

In comparison, Kitahara noted that a 3-colour MC 100 is 18.9m in length, while a 4-colour MC 100 is 19.8m long. commented. “The MC 100 operates with the same folding accuracy as the EVOL and has a lower maximum speed than EVOL for different business portfolio. For instance, the lower speed is not important compared to the set up time, as converters have many short orders to do in case of Japan.” The MC 100’s maximum speed is 300 blanks/min com- pared to 350 blanks/min for the EVOL 100. According to operational time measurements recorded by MHI-MS in customers’ plants in Japan, the average set up time for the MC 100 is two minutes, plus the box quality inspection time taken by the operator. “Set up times are longer in Europe and North America as converters have much bigger orders there. The set up time there is three to four minutes,” Kitahara said. MHI-MS has achieved space-saving for the MC 100 by developing a different colour unit layout to that designed for the EVOL series.“The EVOL has steps between each color unit for print die change access, so it’s a longer ma- chine than the MC 100 which has one platform printing units with one set of steps only and the operator does the print stereo change from the platform above the colour units,” Kitahara explained.

ing, MC 100’s lower energy consumption is environmental- ly beneficial, saving 20,000kg per year of CO2 emission compared to the EVOL. “Looking at the worldwide situation, European compa- nies are top for their attention to Carbon Neutral targets,”
