The electrochemical battery
But perhaps one of the most pressing issues with this battery and perhaps the battery industry as a whole are the minerals of which it is made of. Here in the western world, all we look at is the price tag of the materials and evaluate whether they suit our needs. Though lithium and cobalt are expensive, many of us are not aware that mining these minerals also often comes at the cost of human lives. In the
desperate scramble to fight against fossil fuels and the climate crisis, some corporations have gone as far as to overthrow governments and uproot the ground where forests used to lie in search of these rare metals. Even though we have been refining and perfecting our methods of storing energy, the journey towards the perfect electrochemical cell is most certainly not over.
