Don’t worry--this is not another article about suggestions for spring cleaning! Instead, this is an article about considering fresh ideas this spring, particularly as related to home sharing. Briefly, home sharing involves homeowners choosing to share and rent their homes with compatible home sharers. For home owners, sharing their homes may be a great way to continue living in their home, to enjoy companionship and to receive additional income through rent. For the home sharer, there is also an opportunity to enjoy companionship along with possible financial savings. There are clearly many benefits associated with home sharing. HomeMatch Pima is a home sharing program at Pima Council on Aging (PCOA) that will open later in 2022. Our home sharing pilot program was made possible through the generous support of the Pima County Board of Supervisors and the City of Tucson. We continue to work on developing our program so that it will truly serve and help people. This month, we want to help home owners and home sharers contemplate the option of home sharing. Although there are many advantages associated with home sharing, it may not be something for everyone nor of equal interest at various times in our lives. We also all know the dangers of making decisions in a crisis or on a tight timeline. There is wisdom in taking time to consider the pros and cons of any situation before entering that situation. To really imagine home sharing, we invite you to reflect on three areas of questions. 1. Think over the past two weeks and your day-to-day life. How might there be benefits to sharing your home with someone and where might there be challenges? It may be helpful to think through this question in relation to time of day (morning, afternoon, evening) or different areas of the home (common living areas, dining or kitchen areas). 2. Do you prefer a quieter home or are you more at ease with sounds from music, television, radio, or computer games? Sounds and silence are easy to balance when we live alone yet a bit more complex when we live with others.

PCOA Event Policy *In accordance with CDC guidelines, masking at PCOA facilities is optional for staff, volunteers, and members of the public. PCOA representatives will gladly put on a mask at your request. Participants at in-person event(s) will be expected to adhere to PCOA distancing and safety guidelines. Guidelines for functions held in community sites not operated by PCOA may vary. HomeMatch Pima is a home sharing program at Pima Council on Aging that will open later in 2022 and is designed to match home owners with home sharers. The program works collaboratively within the community to increase knowledge and access to home sharing options, including with Tucson Home Sharing, which focuses on providing information sessions on home sharing arrangements to the general community. drastic changes regarding if or how we are comfortable with others stopping by to see us or for us to drop by and see them. How are you thinking about the social aspect of sharing a home, not only with a home sharer or home owner but also the whole network of people that we each bring? Of course, there are no right or wrong answers to these questions, as we want you to think through your needs, areas of comfort, and areas where you want to branch out in 2022. These are the types of questions we will be asking of participants when our program formally opens. At this time, we are asking homeowners interested in learning more about the program to complete a brief interest form. (That form can be accessed through HomeSharing.pcoa.org ). Please note that homeowners must be age 60 or older to participate in our HomeMatch Pima program. We will then follow up with interested homeowners. As HomeMatch Pima develops, more information will be provided on our website and in future issues of Never Too Late . Thank you for taking the time to consider yourself as a potential home owner or home sharer in our program. Enjoy your April!
