How convenient! A 24/7 Pediatric Emergency Department close to home

W e hope you’ll never need to take your baby or child to the emergency department, but if you do, it’s good to know that the NCH MacDonald Pediatric Emergency Department is close to where you work, live, shop and play. Where you take your child in an emergency matters, and now we’ve made it more convenient than ever to access care quickly. Eliminating the need to travel to other regional pediatric health facilities for care helps reduce emotional and financial burdens for many families. Over the past seven months, the experienced NCH Pediatric ED medical team has saved countless lives while caring for an astounding total of 14,560 young patients. These statistics are a testament to the critical need for a pediatric emergency department where the sole focus is acute child care, said NCH Pediatric Emergency Medical Director Pia Myers, MD, FACEP, FAAP. When you enter the NCH MacDonald Pediatric ED you can be sure that care is being provided by a team who specializes in pediatric emergency medicine. Dr. Myers explains that her eight physician colleagues are all Board Certified in Pediatrics and/or Emergency Medicine. Most of these physicians have years of pediatric emergency room experience. They also have the backup of Pediatric Specialists including Critical Care, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Neurology, Orthopedics, Pulmonology, and Urology. Furthermore, she adds that the ED team of nurses is specialized in pediatric emergency care.

Parents have shared that the NCH Pediatric ED waiting room is so much fun that the little ones don’t want to stop playing when their time comes to be cared for by the Pediatric ED staff. Actually, it is so inviting that children, often times, want to come back to play in the waiting room or watch the end of the movie they were viewing while waiting to be treated. In the treatment rooms, they discover they could pick the color of the background lighting they prefer and they love it. Dr. Myers reminds you to always dial 911 if you are facing a life threatening situation. If the visit isn’t a life threatening emergency, an option for busy parents is to use NCH online self-scheduling tool, www.nchmd.org/PedsED, to speed up the ED waiting process. The NCH MacDonald Pediatric Emergency Department is here to help treat any medical condition. “Our goal is to make sure that your child gets the appropriate level of care using a team approach in a comfortable “fear-free” environment to relieve stress and anxiety,” states Dr. Myers. “We are at your service to diagnose and treat your children,” she adds.
