AUBURN GYMNASTICS - The University of Auburn gymnastics team has added a talented class, as four newcomers have signed with the program. Joining the program will be Charlotte Booth (Clermont, FL), Adriana Consoli (Pearland, TX), Rebekah Smith (Houston, TX) and Brynn Torry (Yorktown, VA). MIAMI COACH STEPS DOWN – Jim Larrañaga, the all-time winningest head coach in University of Miami men’s basketball history, has stepped down. Associate Head Coach Bill Courtney, who has been at Miami since 2019, has been appointed Interim Head Coach for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. In his thirteen-plus seasons in Coral Gables, Larrañaga led the Hurricanes to six NCAA Tournament appearances, including their first Final Four (2023), first Elite Eight (2022), first ACC Tournament title (2013), first two ACC regular season crowns (2013, 2023) and four Sweet 16 appearances. NACC ATHLETICS - Tom Shanklin has been named as the inaugural head coach for the Northeast Alabama Community College men’s soccer program. Men’s soccer at NACC is set to begin its inaugural season in 2025. This milestone marks an exciting new chapter for NACC as it expands its athletic offerings that currently include men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, women’s softball, and Esports. NCAA also recently named Jimmy Kolaitis as the College’s first full-time Athletic Director. Kolaitis will oversee NACC’s cross country, Esports, golf, and softball teams. He will also serve as Assistant Softball Coach with Head Coach Joe Guthrie. He will relieve NACC’s Associate Dean of Instruction Barbara Kilgore, as she has served as acting interim Athletic Director. SIDELINE SPORTS

Sardis Wins Etowah County Girls Basketball Tournament The Sardis Lady Lions defeated Hokes Bluff 53-33 on Friday, January 17, 2025 to win the Etowah County Basketball Tournament. MVP Jolie Taylor (#12) led Sardis with 18 points. Delaney Lee (#5) and Mollie Brock (#10) both scored nine points, while Jordyn Knight (#23) had six points. Lee, Brock and Knight were all named to the All-County Team. Vada Willmore (#1) and Jacee Holcomb (#11) each had four points. Mya Glass (#3) chipped in three points in the win.
County Champs The Ider Hornets won the 2025 DeKalb County Girls Championship, while the Plainview Bears won the Varsity Boys Title. The Spring Garden Girls defeated Sand Rock 77-26 to win the Cherokee County Title. The Spring Garden Boys also defeated Sand Rock 51-50, while the Cherokee County JV boys claimed the County Title with a 41-32 win over Cedar Bluff. In Jackson County, Skyline won the Varsity Boys title and NSM won the girls championship. The North Jackson JV Boys and the Pisgah JV Girls won.

Albertville's Lani Smallwood (#12) scored 36 points to help the Aggies rally for a thrilling 59-51 victory over Guntersville in the opening game of the 2025 Marshall County Basketball Tournament. Guntersville's Addison Hammond (#10) defended on the play. Albertville went on to defeat Arab 67-65 in the championship game to claim the Varsity Girls County Crown. The Aggies 7th grade girls, 7th grade boys and 8th grade boys have all also won county titles. Albertville Wins Girls Title
