The special education program marks success during the past yearwith a nine per cent increase in overall reading ability for specialneedsstudentsintheprimarygrades and an eight per cent increase in overall writingskillsforthosestudentsinthejunior grades. District students of all grades are also benefitting from improvements and expansion of the e-learning and blended learningprograms.TheCDSBEOintroduced itsonlinecoursecurriculumadditionin2001 and had an initial enrolment of a dozen students taking advantage of distance- learningadditionstotheircourseprogram NowtheCDSBEOhasalmost1000students acrossEasternOntariousinge-learningasa supplement to their programs through an online curriculumoffering of more than 50 courses.
KEMPTVILLE | It was a good year last year for English Catholic schools in EasternOntario. The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) has a glowing year-end report to share with parents and studentsfromitsEducationDirectorWilliam J.Gartland. “Itisapleasuretohavetheopportunityto present theDirector’s Annual Report 2011,” stated Gartland in his introduction. “This report is a chance for us to review and celebrateourmanyaccomplishments.” One of the report’s highlights is the tally ofresultsfromthelatestroundofprovincial assessmentstoevaluateoverallperformance and success of the CDSBEO curriculum in developing students’ reading, writing, and mathematics skills. Gartland noted that CDSBEOstudentsareexceedingthepresent provincial average in all three areas and he anticipates the district will have no trouble meeting the EducationMinistry’s target of a 75 per cent proficiency rating by 2012. In somecaseslikethejuniorreadingassessment of78percentfor2011,theCDSBEOisalready exceedingtheprovincialstandard. Gartland observed in his report that the districtcontinuestoexpandanddevelopits
