Memphis, Tennessee based International Paper an- nounced a company rebrand to align with its strategic vision to Build a Better IP through sustainable, profitable growth and accelerated value creation. As the company celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2023, the rebrand high- lights its resilience, the sustainability of its mission and its commitment to creating what's next. The new branding embodies a renewed sense of pur- pose, energy, and optimism, and marks another major milestone in the company’s evolution. “IP is meeting today's needs for renewable, fiber-based packaging and pulp while sharpening our focus on the fu- ture," said IP CEO Mark Sutton. “As we embark on the next 125 years, we are here for what's now and creating what's next for our stakeholders.” The new branding will be rolled out globally beginning this month and includes an updated website which will launch soon. The site will provide an enhanced experi- ence for customers and act as a one-stop-shop for stake- holders to see first-hand IP's commitment to being among the most successful, sustainable, and responsible compa- nies in the world. NY Senator Harckham Introduces Packaging Reduction & Recycling Bill New York State Senator Pete Harckham announced the introduction of legislation he says would reduce plastic and paper waste, increase recycling, encourage use of recyclable materials, regulate toxins and save local gov- ernments money. Under the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infra- structure Act, companies with a net income of over $1 million would be required to reduce consumer packaging, improve recycling efforts of their product packaging and help update recycling infrastructure. Companies would also be expected to create and/or maintain reusable and refill infrastructure, support municipal recycling programs financially, and reduce the toxins in their packaging. “We need to immediately address one of the dire prob- lems of our age: the tremendous amount of waste, much of it recyclable, that we create each day — and which costs taxpayers and municipalities hundreds of millions of dol- lars in wasted carting and recycling costs,” Harckham said at a press conference joined by supporting local officials including Mount Kisco Mayor Gina Picinich. The bill calls for producers to reduce their packaging by 10 percent of weight in three years, 20 percent in five years, 30 percent in eight years, 40 percent in 10 years and 50 percent in 12 years. Picinich said that collecting and disposing recycled materials is a major expense for local governments and praised Harckham for his efforts.
