dication o f Himself against this insult. And who can doubt but that in allowing John Bunyan to spend precious years o f his life in prison, God had in view the in terests of the multitude of those who have been, and o f those who will be, blessed through the dreamer’s wonderful pictures? ^ S elected . JULY 28 Delivered and Upheld “ The Lord thy God hare thee, as a man doth hear his son, in all the way that ye wenf’ (Deut. 1 :31). Who were they o f whom this blessed fact was declared? They were a chosen people, a redeemed people, a delivered peo ple. The Lord who had brought them out of the house o f bondage did not set them free that they might be a self-guided and self-governed people. Bondage, misery, and perplexity would inevitably have fol lowed, had they been left to their own resources. The Lord redeemed and deliv ered them for Himself. . . . W e see here how God’s gracious upholding fol lows immediately His work, o f redemption. And is not this the history of His dealings with His people today? . . . He thinks o f us and provides for us as a father pities and cares for his children. Let this blessed fact keep us “quiet from fear o f evil,” and deliver us from every anxious thought. Let it constrain u's to lie down and rest in the will o f God.— L ife of F a it h . JULY 29 Something Better "Not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection" (Heb. 11:35). No grace should be more prized by us than that which strengthens us for the cheerful endurance o f present poverty and loss. In a mistaken love of our life, are we not far too eager “to obtain promises” that will fill us with present good, o f one sort or another? H ow little account we make o f faith’s perhaps more fruitful o f fice— “not accepting deliverance” 1 . . . ■Look at the Master’s example in this mat ter. “ Thinkest thou,” said He to Peter, “ that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the Scriptures he fulfilled . . A word would have brought ten thousand eager friends to His help. But how then would the Scripture have been accomplished: “He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter” ? So, for our sake, the Saviour was content to remain undelivered, even to the cross. But, “not accepting deliverance,” assuredly He obtained “a better resurrection.” How much “ better,” eternity shall not suffice to tell. Delivered, He would have saved Him self ; undelivered, He obtained a resurrec tion life o f power and glory and redeeming grace.—C. G. M oore . JULY 30 Coming "Occupy till I come” (Lk. 19:13). Till I come, my child, be busy; do not wait with empty hands, Well improve your time and talents; seek to follow My commands. Sit not still, while idly dreaming of the glory yet before— Rise and labor, ever knowing there is bright reward in store. I am coming, surely coming—yet I love to have you wait, Listening for My nearing footsteps, won dering why they seem so late;

nature have special value. I have observed from week to week the marked interest on the part of young and old as Mr. Talbot has given these object lessons. I heartily commend them to teachers, mothers, or any who are interested in the training of children. Any children’s evan gelist will find them very practical." DR. E. L. McCREERY, Dean of Bible Institute of Los Angeles: “ I most heartily commend Mr. Talbot’s book, OBJECTS THAT TALK AND TEACH, as it meets a long-felt need on the part of many pas tors and Christian workers, who are desirous of impressing spiritual truth on the minds of the children of their congregation."

“ The object talks by Mr. Talbot to the chil dren, young and old, at the Church of the Open Door, are the finest and most markedly Spirit- inspired of any to which I have ever' listened. It is a joy to know that they are to be put in shape so a wider circle may get their messages, and perhaps some of God's messengers may be able to use them again." MRS. ANNA L. DENNIS, Teacher of Christian Education, Bible Institute of Los Angeles: “ That is not first which is spiritual but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. This is God's order.
