AUGUST 2024
BACK-TO-SCHOOL SEASON Embrace New Adventures and Lifelong Lessons
Summer flew by, and now it's time to gear up for fall — it’s back- to-school season! As we transition from the warmth of the summer months into the rhythm of the 2024–2025 school year, it's important for both parents and students to take a moment to reflect on this past summer's experiences and plan for future adventures. While it’s normal to focus on schedules, routines, coursework, and grades, it’s equally important, even for our youngest learners, to let go of the stress of academics and remember that experiences are what truly matter. Now, more than ever, kids are stressed out about keeping up with the newest curriculums, getting the highest grades, balancing tons of extracurricular activities, and showing off their knowledge. But I urge everyone to also focus on the new events and activities coming in the next few months. What new skills, games, activities, and lessons will your child explore? What memories will they create this year? What new opportunities will your family encounter during this school year? Don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying studies and grades don’t matter because they certainly do, but I strongly believe the experiences trump all.
While your degree can help you land your first job, we look for both personal and professional experiences when hiring at our firm. For example, those who have traveled and gained a broader perspective on the world have an advantage over those who have only attended law school without exploring beyond it. Too often, people graduate with a law degree only to discover that they don't enjoy the job. They find themselves four or five years into their career feeling miserable and dreading going to work every day. My advice to those heading to another year of college, high school, or even grade school is to focus on who they are and the experiences they pursue. The key is to ensure the career you choose will bring you happiness, as everything flows from that. When you’re happy and genuinely passionate about your work, especially in the field of law, it’s reflected in how you treat clients, handle cases, and collaborate with your team. Passion for the job is essential.
Happiness comes first, and it all starts with focusing on the experiences that matter most!
Last year, I had the opportunity to speak to students at my alma mater, Santa Clara University, who were interested in becoming lawyers. I emphasized that the places they visit, the people they interact with, and the events they encounter help shape who they are today and are more important than anything else. They are more than what major they choose, the courses they take, or the tests they pass. This wasn't meant to undermine the importance of education, but I truly believe that engaging in activities and creating meaningful experiences is the key.
Happiness comes first, and it all starts with focusing on the experiences that matter most! Happy 2024-2025 school year!

START THE SCHOOL YEAR RIGHT! TRANSFORM BACK-TO-SCHOOL BLUES WITH CREATIVE SUMMER TRADITIONS
Shopping Extravaganza Day Make back-to-school shopping a special event rather than a stressful errand. Dedicate a day to shop for school supplies and clothes, but do it with a twist. Perhaps end the day with a favorite meal or treat, or let your children choose a special new outfit or backpack. This makes the shopping trip more exciting and gives children something to look forward to using in the new school year! Decorate the Workspace Party Another fun tradition is to have a “Decorate the Workspace Party.” Before school starts, set aside a day to organize and decorate where your child will do their homework. Let them choose new items to personalize the space, such as colorful organizers, fun pens, or decorations. This gives them a sense of control and pride over their study area, which can be incredibly motivating.
As summer's lazy, hazy days begin to wane, the buzz of back-to-school preparations starts to fill the air. This can be a bittersweet time for kids and parents alike — excitement mixed with a touch of end-of-summer blues. To make this transition smoother and even fun, why not start a back-to-school tradition? These rituals can set a positive tone for the upcoming school year and create lasting memories for you and your children. The Back-to-School Countdown Calendar Who says advent calendars are only for December? Create a back-to-school countdown calendar that builds excitement as the first day of school approaches. You can fill it with small treats, inspirational quotes, or fun school supplies. Each day, your child can open a new compartment, counting down the days with a bit of surprise, making the impending school year feel like a celebration rather than a chore.
Back-to-School Breakfast On the first day of school, wake up early and prepare a special breakfast. Pancakes, waffles, or even a DIY breakfast sundae bar can start the day on a high note. You can make this an annual tradition where the kids decide the menu, giving them something exciting to wake up to on a potentially nerve-wracking morning. Starting back-to-school traditions can transform the end-of-summer blues into anticipation and excitement. It’s about building joy and making memories your children will carry with them long after the school year begins.

The Case Barnett Law Difference PUTTING FAMILY AT THE HEART OF LEGAL SERVICES At Case Barnett Law, we pride ourselves on being a family-centric firm. We understand the role that family bonds play in our lives — family is everything and always comes first. Thus, we recognize the profound impact that personal injury cases can have on entire families. This is especially true when children are involved, which is why we prioritize standing up for their rights and ensuring they receive the justice they deserve. We handle many cases involving minors, a niche many other law firms tend to avoid. This reluctance often stems from the complexities involved in these cases, such as the requirement for court approval of settlements and the fact that fees are often reduced compared to those for adult cases. While it is a significant amount of work, we embrace these challenges because family is always our top priority. We witness firsthand the devastating impact injuries to children can have on families, and we are committed to making a difference. We are proud to say our team is efficient in managing these sensitive cases, and they approach each one with care and dedication. We take the time to understand the unique needs of each family and child we represent. We make sure that each step we take aligns with their best interests. Our compassionate approach helps to ease the burden on families during these challenging times and provides them with the support they need while navigating the legal process. Our dedication to family values and our commitment to justice drive us to deliver the highest quality legal representation, which makes an impact on the lives of those we serve. At Case Barnett Law, we truly believe that when we support families, we build a stronger community for everyone.
