2 PIECES OF ADVICE EVERY HOMEOWNER NEEDS From an Experienced HVAC Expert

No. 2: Help me help you. As I said before, emergencies happen. In many cases, this can be a sign that it’s time to upgrade your HVAC system, but plenty of emergencies are just simple mechanical failures. It happens with any piece of technology! That said, when you contact me for an emergency call, help me help you. I expect emergency calls, but I also have to help other customers with scheduled maintenance and emergencies (perhaps one more dire than the other). I will always be flexible, but I also ask that my customers be flexible, too. Unfortunately, I can’t always wait until after naptime or for you to run errands. If you can be flexible with my time, I can be flexible with your time. If we can both do that, I can provide efficient service that could ultimately extend the life of your HVAC unit because the sooner I can make repairs, the better. I aim to return your home to a comfortable temperature as quickly as possible. Let’s work together to make sure that can happen in emergencies. As a homeowner, you never want to face an HVAC emergency, but if you can keep these two pieces of advice in mind when it does happen, you will be better prepared. And as always, I’m ready to help. Call Ava Air today to keep your HVAC system running smoothly.

I have a confession: I’m tired.

(By the way, the same is true for your heating systems and cold weather.)

Summer is a busy season for HVAC experts, and you can imagine why. As temperatures soar, the strain we place on our old, worn-out air conditioning units climbs, too. It’s common for me to receive emergency calls nearly every day during the summer. And that’s par for the course in the industry! Anyone who works in the mechanical or service industries knows emergencies will happen. However, these emergency calls can often be avoided. I’m always happy to help however I can, but I want to help you before it’s scorching hot and your air conditioning unit goes kaput.

This month, I have two pieces of advice for every homeowner. I’m an expert in this industry, so trust me when I say this advice will not only save you money but also your sanity. Let’s help each other. No. 1: Don’t be an ostrich. We’ve all been there. We get bad news or something changes and want to avoid it. But you can’t be an ostrich with your head in the sand when it comes to HVAC maintenance and care. If your HVAC system needs an upgrade, don’t hold out hope it can last one more summer. Instead, upgrade your system to save yourself money and time and improve your home’s efficiency. Think of it this way: Let’s say you had an emergency in September, as temperatures were still high, but fall was in sight. You wanted to prolong the life of your unit as long as you could, so you decided to wait to replace your air conditioning system. Then, June rolls around, and you have another air conditioner failure. At that point, it’s time to start facing reality. If you continue to have emergencies, your unit is sending you clear signals it needs an upgrade. I will do all I can to help in an emergency, but as a consumer, it’s also important that you recognize when the emergencies are no longer worth it. Face reality and enjoy not having to panic schedule with me every summer.

COCA-COLA MAGIC Your Favorite Soft Drink’s Hidden Potential

Delicious Defrosting If you live in a particularly icy environment — such as a polar bear- riddled iceberg — then you may want to try out this unorthodox Coca-Cola application for yourself. Apparently, pouring Coca-Cola on your windshield can help you wipe away the ice much more easily than just using water. Coca-Clean While some may be perturbed after spilling a sugary drink on themselves, others spill Coca-Cola on themselves on purpose. This is because Coca-Cola has been heralded for its ability to remove grease stains from clothing. Apparently, for the toughest grease stains, some recommend soaking the affected area in Coca-Cola for a half-hour before tossing it in the washing machine. Coca-Cola is also touted as an agent to remove rust, clean baking equipment, whiten a toilet bowl, or wipe away oil stains from a household floor. The rumors regarding Coca-Cola’s cleaning properties are so pervasive that the company even addressed them on its website. According to the company, although “a small amount of edible acid is present in Coca-Cola,” they do not recommend using it as a household cleaner. Curling Hair Admittedly, this use has less to do with the soda itself and more with the can, but TikToker Jonathan K. Monroe made a splash with his more than 2.6 million followers when he reportedly curled his hair using nothing but an aluminum Coca-Cola can. According to the now-viral trend, the method involves putting strands of your hair into the can, swirling it around, then blowing hot air over and into the can with a blow dryer before pulling out perfectly curled hair. According to writer Angela Trakoshis from Allure, she was skeptical that the method would yield positive results. However, after trying it herself, she was shocked: “The can of Coke created not just any curl but the perfect curl.” You heard it here first — ditch your curling iron, buy a 12-pack of canned Coca-Cola, drink it, and save the cans, stat!

Dr. John Pemberton invented Coca-Cola back in 1886. In its first year, he served about nine Coca-Cola drinks every day. Its popularity has increased significantly since then — and not just among caffeine-addled polar bears in the Arctic, despite what commercials may have you believe. It is now the top soft drink in the world, with a brand valued at nearly $100 billion. However, despite its delicious taste, Coca-Cola has been used for various purposes since its inception, as myths and realizations about its properties came to fruition. Here are four wonderful alternate uses for everyone’s favorite soda!

Meat Marinade If you have ever had a glass of Coca-Cola and thought, “I want to marinate something in this,” then you are not alone. The world has experimented with the fizzy drink as a marinade for many years. The internet is a great place to find these marinated meat recipes, from Coca-Cola marinated rib-eye steaks to Coca-Cola braised pork tacos. Southern Living magazine even has its own recipe for a Coca-Cola BBQ sauce you can whip together in just 25 minutes!

Football season is underway, and many Americans will start spending their Saturdays and Sundays tailgating in stadium parking lots. It doesn’t matter if you’re going to an NFL or college game; tailgating is a great way to spend time with your friends and family before the big game. While many tailgates consist of adult activities like drinking alcohol and blasting loud music, many prefer to make it a family affair. Score Big With Kid- Friendly Tailgates

If you plan to have kids at your tailgate, you need to ensure they have everything they need to have fun. Here are a few ways you can help your kids make the most of their day at the tailgate!

Encourage your kids to show support for their team. Whether you’re a fan of the home or away team, you and your kids should wear the right colors to show your support. Let your kids pick out a shirt, jersey, hat, or other team-affiliated apparel to help them get involved. Finally, don’t forget about your child’s need for a nap. Be sure to bring pillows and a blanket for them, and set up a comfortable spot for them to rest when needed. Doing so will allow everyone to enjoy the upcoming game to the fullest.

Bring kid-friendly snacks and drinks. The average tailgate lasts a few hours, and most people enjoy at least one meal during that time frame. While most tailgate foods are simple appetizers and easy-to-make dishes, ask your kids or any kids attending if they want anything specific. Fill one of your coolers with sliced fruit and juice boxes to ensure your kids have a healthy food option and child-friendly drinks. Plan a few different activities. Your kids will get bored if there’s nothing to do at the tailgate besides listening to pregame coverage and talking to others. Invest in cornhole boards or other games, and see if someone in your group is comfortable with face painting. It doesn’t have to be extensive, but having a few kid-friendly activities prepared will keep boredom at bay.

Vitamins Made Easy

The Essential Trio for Any Lifestyle It’s daunting to determine which vitamins and supplements to take when every doctor, dietitian, and online health guru has a different list of must-haves — and they’re usually pretty long. Looking for somewhere to get started? Here are three supplements almost everyone can benefit from!

Vitamin D Everyone knows you need calcium for strong and healthy bones — but without vitamin D, you’re missing out on critical benefits. Vitamin D promotes calcium absorption in the body, so many milk brands fortify their products with vitamin D. It’s essential to prevent

A Multivitamin Stress, health changes, and even prescription medications in our everyday lives can sap our energy and deplete crucial vitamins. Generally, the best way to replenish what we’ve lost is through various fruits and vegetables. Still, with busy schedules, diminished appetites, or other obstacles, that’s not always possible. A multivitamin is a great starter supplement, as it can help fill various nutritional gaps. Omega 3 Fatty Acids These specific types of fat are found most abundantly in fish, nuts, seeds, and eggs. They facilitate cellular function and are essential for the heart, brain, and eyes. Unfortunately, our bodies can’t produce enough fatty acids independently, so we must add more through our diets or supplements. Benefits include a lowered risk of developing heart disease, blood clots, certain types of cancer, dementia, Alzheimer’s, age-related macular degeneration, and more.

osteoporosis. Additionally, vitamin D is critical for cell growth and reducing inflammation, and it’s easy to obtain from sunlight. Unfortunately, many people are deficient in this one. Why? Our modern lives keep many of us indoors. If you’re looking to start a vitamin regimen but all the different health advice on the web overwhelms you, take a step back and start simply. Remember, you can always add more later. Keeping it simple initially will increase your likelihood of sticking to your plan! Try starting with these three supplements, see how they make you feel, and then take it from there.
