I n a message to the and helped him to find scholarships and secure financial backing to pursue his education. “To get here is a privilege, an honour; and moving forward, you have to understand that being a SPISE graduate you have to carry that weight on your shoulder that you have gotten an opportunity that not many have had, and you should make the best of it. “SPISE ingrained in me that I just need to push through with whatever I was dealing with. It created a cohort, he explained that SPISE taught him tenacity network of like-minded people who wanted to achieve more. It was the first time in my life that I was in

a condensed group of people who were high achievers. It made me feel like what I was doing was not enough and that I could do more. That inspired me. SPISE also encouraged me to think, when I started my company, that we can create this Silicon Forest in the Caribbean. We have the potential to do it but have not placed enough emphasis on STEM education and focusing on digital services as a product.” Dr. Dinah Sah said there were lessons to be learned from Roserie’s experience, among them resourcefulness, the need to take calculated risks, and to create opportunities. She said they were astonished and inspired by what the graduate has accomplished. In his pep talk, Professor Warde gave sobering advice to the regional students: “Our charge to you is to stick with it, be tenacious; and in some ways, you must be a little bit aggressive in going after what you want. All of you have goals. If you see an opportunity, take it. And use the resources that are out there … If you don’t use the resources, you are wasting your time, and you’re wasting an opportunity.” SPISE is the flagship programme of the CSF and has as its motto “Grooming the next generation of Caribbean science and engineering leaders” . l

“SPISE was one of the most fundamental experiences of my educational journey and my life because it changed the trajectory for me, not only in terms of what I wanted to do, but it changed my way of thinking and opened my eyes to the possibilities in the areas of engineering.”
