STUDENT-CENTRED
Musical Bridge Joins UWI and UK
A cultural programme that brought together aspiring Caribbean creatives and their United Kingdom (UK) counterparts last year is set to become an annual feature of the summer school student experience at Cave Hill. It is intended to provide persons under 18 years with unique intercultural exposure.
T he cultural interaction took place alongside the two-week Imagine Youth Summer Arts Programme as the campus partnered with London-based School Street Vibes Academy to facilitate a Digital Music and Media Youth Workshop . The 14-day programme, which began on 21 July
was facilitated through the Faculty of Culture, Creative and Performing Arts at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination (EBCCI). EBCCI’s then Acting Manager Nicole Pinder said the annual initiative will create valuable opportunities for youth in both countries to share expertise and explore different musical genres.
“The programme offers a great opportunity for the young people to be exposed to the different styles of music. On our end, we offer the youth from the Street Vibes Academy the experience of playing traditional instruments, and they, in turn, expose Barbadian youth to digital music”, she noted.
