Expressing her excitement at attending the workshop, Barbadian participant Chioma Hunte stated: “It is fun to interact with young people from different countries and cultures … I believe it will help broaden my musical experiences. I am also looking forward to creating new beats and playing in a band with the other participants.”

She added that given the high interest shown in the initiative and the realised benefits, the collaboration would be an annual event that will continue under the faculty’s Imagine Youth Summer Arts Programme that is run yearly, July to August. In addition, it is anticipated that there will be a few updates to the workshop. Hanna Bragg of Street Vibes Academy , who is originally from South Africa, said she was grateful to be exposed to different instruments that are used in the Caribbean. “The experience has been very eye-opening. I got the opportunity to learn new instruments that I was otherwise not familiar with. I was also able to gain new knowledge of traditional instruments and their effect on Caribbean culture,” Bragg shared. The exchange programme is part of the Music Bridges Culture project which is sponsored by the Department of Education in the UK through the Turing Foundation. l
