I nternships provide invaluable experience for job seekers as Adiella Lewis and Brettney Romeo can attest after completing recent job placements with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) . The two University of the West Indies, Cave Hill students were the first awardees since President of Afreximbank Professor Benedict Oramah announced the initiative following a meeting with Principal Professor Clive Landis last September. Lewis and Romeo, who are graduates of the Masters in International Trade Policy (MITP) at the Shridath Ramphal Centre for International Trade Law, Policy and Services (SRC) , expressed their delight for the opportunity. “I feel truly humbled and excited to have had this internship experience and to be a part of an organisation with a multicultural work environment,” said Romeo. “I would like to thank the Shridath Ramphal Centre’s MITP and Professor Winston Moore, Deputy Principal of The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, for sharing this amazing opportunity with us.” Her colleague Lewis also voiced her gratitude, stating: “Participating in Afreximbank’s internship programme was an incredibly transformative experience [for] which I continue to be deeply appreciative.” The Afreximbank specialises in providing trade finance to the African continent with the goal of developing and promoting trade in Africa. The duo said they were inspired to seize this opportunity following the first ever CARICOM-Africa Summit held virtually on 7 September 2021 at which the bank was represented.
