H er journey to complete higher education has not been easy. The 25-year-old was forced to work multiple jobs while studying, had to delay her studies while trying to save the necessary funds and, at one point, dropped out of university. Now enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance degree programme, she is a top performer. From her early teens, Skeete was acutely aware of the financial struggles of her parents who did not have the opportunity to pursue tertiary education. The money they made from doing odd jobs made taking care of her and her two siblings difficult. The situation prompted Skeete to begin working as soon as she completed secondary school at age 17. A year later, in 2017, she enrolled at The UWI, Cave Hill, to pursue a BSc in Biology. While studying, she worked three jobs to support her family and meet the $7,000 annual tuition fee.
