Sandra Husbands, Minister of State in Foreign Trade and Business Development; Anthony Branker, BCCI President; Trisha Tannis, BPSA Chair; and Prof. Clive Landis, Campus Principal

SCHSBM’s Interim Executive Director Dr. Dion Greenidge said by igniting such partnerships, the school sought to embark on the development of a more sustainable and resilient business environment. “As one of the leading business schools in the region, SCHSBM recognises its role in contributing in a meaningful way to the development of the business environment in Barbados,” he said, adding that public- private-civic partnerships are critical to the achievement of the sustainability agenda. “These partnerships are a mechanism for financing sustainable development, as they allow for the harmonising of private and public interests, unifying entrepreneurial and government investments, developing highly effective and full-scale implementation of initiatives in the sphere of sustainable business development. The flexibility and variability of such partnerships also facilitate the applicability of sustainable development to any industry.” P resident of the BCCI Mr. Anthony Branker praised the SCHSBM for the “visionary” theme of the conference, Developing Collective Action Towards an Innovative Landscape and noted it addressed the impetus the business community needed going forward.

Principal of Cave Hill Campus Professor Clive Landis , who is spearheading the campus’s move for deeper integration with the private sector, noted that The UWI’s 2022-2027 Strategy has been launched on the theme The Revenue Revolution to bolster the institution’s own income generation. He pointed out that, as part of that overarching strategy, the Cave Hill income generating strategy is themed "Creating Value From Our Ideas" in a bid to create value for society and value for the university by diversifying the campus’s income streams. “I therefore see a great convergence today in the strategies of The UWI, the Government and the private sector that are collectively focused on creating opportunities for our citizens, developing technologies and products to help advance our society, and overall, improve the quality of life within our region,” Principal Landis said. The SCHSBM has had a long- standing relationship with the local private sector dating back to 1991 when it was established as the arm of the campus to assist business executives and leaders to thrive in the global environment. l

“We must develop a culture that kindles a passion for new knowledge and bold ideas, paving the way for creativity to flow through. As a small island developing state, our future depends upon technology and innovation,” he stated. He also encouraged the local private sector to embrace innovation, stating an innovation-friendly work culture is an expression of maturity. “Incorporating a culture of innovation means taking risks and accepting a measure of unpredictability with a chance of reaping huge rewards. Our future business leaders must embrace innovation.” His sentiments were shared by Mrs. Trisha Tannis , Chairman of the BPSA, who said she was “extremely excited” about the prospect of the partnership initiative because of its relevance and value. “We believe that this research will be a gift to the nation and will reposition the country [as] a strong and efficient global competitor. Given the areas of focus, mission, purpose and objectives, once achieved, the private sectors of Barbados and the region can only be rich and empowered in the need to grow and thrive for generations to come.”
