F ormer Prime Minister of Grenada Dr. Keith Mitchell has made a strong case for the creation of a single Caribbean Information and Communication Technology (ICT) space, suggesting it is urgently needed to counter the risks of cybersecurity and digital crime. Dr. Mitchell, who was once the Lead Head of Government in the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM’s) Quasi Cabinet with responsibility for Science and Technology, said the pandemic showed the critical role such a mechanism can play as it exposed technological shortfalls in many countries. He further said these states already had to
contend with emerging crises and challenges associated with big data, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, machine learning, the Internet of Things, data protection, and privacy and security. Now serving as the Leader of the Opposition in Grenada, Dr. Mitchell
delivered the keynote address during the historic, first, joint
conference of faculties of science and technology from The University of the West Indies , Cave Hill, Mona, and St. Augustine campuses; and the University of Technology (UTech) , Jamaica. The academic conference, Frontiers of Research in Caribbean Science and Technology (FORECAST) , was held virtually from 10-12 August 2022 under the
