Law Library Gets Learning Commons

T he basement floor of the Faculty of Law Library, which was once filled with hundreds of books and shelving, has been completely transformed into an inviting atmosphere that encourages student learning. The area previously housed the library’s U.S. Collection, prized West Indian legislation, and other materials. Now, the space is outfitted with two group study
rooms, a modern learning commons, a small training room and a consultation room. It has been renamed the Faculty of Law Learning Commons and was officially opened on 25 November 2022. Officer-in-Charge of the Faculty of Law Library Lieutenant Colonel Junior Browne said a phased approach was taken for the project. The two group study rooms were installed in 2017, while most of the remaining work was undertaken in 2022. During
the process, numerous shelves were dismantled and more than 700 boxes of materials were stored off-site in two 40-foot containers equipped with shelving and temperature controls. “We intend to complete the transformation and examine other areas in the library where we can upgrade and modernise for the benefit of all as we support the Faculty of Law in its mission.
