Her fellow valedictorian at the evening ceremony, Stephanie Pascal , shared similar sentiments: “We will never forget our time here at The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus. Anyone who has gone to university can attest that we are simultaneously living the best, worst, poorest, most stressful, and most adventurous time of our lives. This is the same at Cave Hill. Considering that The UWI is one of the top ranked universities in the world, few programmes are more rigorous than ours.” Honorary graduate His Excellency Ambassador Gabriel Abed advised the new graduates to “create tomorrow’s value today”. “[It was] one of the most valuable lessons I learned from my dad, who would not let you leave today’s work for tomorrow; and when you did work, you delivered ultimate value. For if you can bring value through hard work, you would yield positive results. And the fastest way to success is to create value today, as people are attracted to those [who] bring value now,” said Abed, who was awarded a Doctor of Laws (LLD) for entrepreneurship and pioneering digital currency. A third honorary graduate, businessman Neville Isdell of Ireland, was also conferred a Doctor of Laws for his contributions to business and philanthropy. l

staged in March 2021 and October 2021 respectively, were held virtually in keeping with the health and safety protocols implemented to safeguard against the spread of the deadly coronavirus. The 2022 graduation saw 187 students being awarded first class honours, a number that eclipsed the previous year’s highest of 154. Additionally, ten medical students graduated with honours, while upper second class honours were awarded to 490 students, and 209 received lower second class honours. At the graduate level, 129 students received distinction, while 23 were awarded merit. One graduate received high commendation.
