Crest Ink - Volume 33 - Number 03

Sanitation Cowboy by James Long, Ingredient Division Sanitation I have been washing these mixers so long – 24 years and going strong – long before the “third generation” of Meiners came along. I know every crack in these clean floors of the ingredient division at Crest Foods – where discipline is the name of the game and clean sanitarians get washed away like jalapeños down the drain. I want to be where the stars are shining on me, like a sanitation cowboy riding out on a John Deere floor scrubber with lights and a radio in a cleaning show. Justin – get the hint?? Getting cleaning offers over the phone like a sanita- tion cowboy. I really don’t mind the job – but cleaning can be such a pain when the guy doing the scheduling is insane and makes it the hard way. Just kidding Chris, you are doing a great job! I dream of things I can do with a pressure washer in my right hand, a blue towel tucked inside my belt too, like a sanitation cowboy. The goal of the third generation of Meiners should be to build 815Eats to a billion dollar company! Then I can work seven days a week – you see, that would make me very happy – like a sanitation cowboy riding out on a John Deere floor scrubber with lights and a radio in a cleaning show. In July of this year, Ben Kinn (Warehouse Supervisor) and Gary McCluskey (Truck Driver) headed out to Colorado for an adventure. Their first stop was in Leadville, CO, and they chose this location to acclimate to the elevation be- fore they took on the challenge of hiking Mount Elbert, the highest summit of the Rocky Mountains, the highest point in Colorado and the second highest summit in the contiguous United States. Mount Elbert measures at 14,440 feet and it took 11 hours to hike up and down. The next day the two hiked Isabelle Glacier. While on their trip, the two also visited Vail, Aspen and Independence Pass. Despite some sore muscles and maybe a few blisters they had a great time and can’t wait to go again and maybe try a few more “14ers”!
