Hidden Angus - Annual Angus Bull & Female Sale [3/16/25]

Jacob’s thoughts

I’m excited to see this year’s calf crop and seeing the breeding decisions I made with Ralphs guidance finally come together. We had a good year of grass and the weaning weights are to show for this as they are better. Ralph always talked about proven genetics, so we are holding true and doing the same. Stagecoach, Emerald, Power Play and Accomplishment are all older sires with the data to back them. I want to continue this mindset with the focus on good feet, udder, deposition and longevity. I have learned a lot in the last 2 years with the help from my wife Kim and sister-in-law Kate as the paperwork side of things has gotten easier. My dad can be a prick if we make one mistake on the cattle records and he might not know the genetics as well as I do, but he is always pushing for us to have better cattle and he isn’t afraid to let me know if I make a bad breeding decision. As I continue to make breeding decisions, I have the mindset that I need to focus on improving the bottom end. Good cattle are good, but it’s the bottom end that will make or break it. We asked the local Vet clinic to explain the details and importance of the Breeding Soundness Exam and all of our bulls receive this exam to ensure they are going to be ready to perform.
