A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8
This week the students concluded their opportunities to show prospective new pupils and their families around the school. The girls looked really smart and did a wonderful job answering questions and promoting their school and we are all really proud of them. Please pass on a big well done to them all! We held a wonderful bake sale in aid of Macmillan cancer charity today and the students did a great job supporting by bringing in their baked goods and more importantly purchasing them! Thank you for all the help they had at home with this. This week we elected student representatives from each form and each year group, who will represent their peers at the Student Parliament. Here the students will meet to discuss issues, make decisions and influence change within the school. It provides a platform for students to share their views and set policies that shape their educational environment. Our Waldegrave student parliament is split into 5 committees: Diversity and Inclusion. Environment (Eco), Curriculum, Community and Healthy Schools. Well done to Evelyn SB, Tara M, Amira C, Charvi C, Grace J, Tabitha E, Amelie C, Oyku I, Charlotte B, Rose B, Sasha C, Betty R, Melis A, Zeynep V, Hannah L, Sophie S, Fatime B, Rosie Y, Hannah S and Olivia L for taking on these roles. Next week we are getting stuck into our Readathon, we want to encourage independent reading to improve literacy skills but also to support better mental health. Year 7 & 8’s have been given a sponsorship card and a bookmark so now students can raise money for a wonderful cause.
As the weather gets cooler and students start bringing in their coats and layers please ensure they have been clearly labelled.
Have a lovely weekend!

BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘Heartless’ by Marissa Meyer Heartless is a prequel to Alice in Wonderland as it follows the story of the Queen of Hearts and how she came to be so harsh. The young girl, Catherine is destined to marry to royalty, but finds herself drawn to a mysterious joker with many tricks up his sleeve. The story is set in the Kingdom of Hearts, but dips into the backstory of the different kingdoms in the land. It is a romance story with drama and lots of heartbreak. I love this book because it connects so well with the story of Alice in Wonderland and is described in such a way that allows you to imagine the magical world in your head like you’re watching a movie. This book may be a little slow into the action but if you push through it is really worth it in the end.
