A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 11

It has been another busy week for Year 11. Today 65 students involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Silver award set off for their assessed expedition. Everyone did really well in their practice expedition so we wish them all well and hope the weather stays dry for them! This week in tutor time students were elected to take part in our Student Parliament: a group of elected student representatives from each form and each year group, who meet to discuss issues, make decisions and influence change within the school. The students voted in are: Isla R, Hannah, Emma, Isabella D, Kenza J, Luciana TA, Mia W, Natalie, Lucy S, Asya D, Deetya P, Evie, Lilly, Afrodite, Gabby G, Yuna C, Keiva M, Alexa M, Cara H, Immy S and Poppy P. Well done to them all! We also had our Macmillan bake sale today. Students were asked to bake and donate cakes in support of this fantastic cause. The day was a great success and it was wonderful to see so many students getting involved! Special thank you to the Year 11 House prefects who were all fantastic in supporting the smooth running of this event. Congratulations to Year 11 who are working so well in lessons. Many teachers have commented as to how hard working and diligent the students have been as a year group. They all seem very committed to doing well and are also being incredibly supportive of each other which is great to see. The Waldegrave Sixth form Open Evening is coming up on Thursday 16 October. There are 3 slots to choose from: 5-6pm, 6-7pm and 7-8pm. Don’t forget to book your tickets for this event. It’s a great opportunity to come and talk to subject teachers and current students about life in the sixth form and the subjects students may be interested in studying at A Level.

MRS PORTEOUS, HEAD OF YEAR 11

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘The Housemaid’ by Freida McFadden Millie is a young, beautiful woman who takes a job as a live-in housekeeper for a wealthy couple, Nina and Andrew. For Millie, who has a criminal record, it’s a fantastic job - until it’s not. Things go downhill quickly as Nina exhibits increasingly bizarre behavior and Millie’s room in the attic only locks from the outside… If you are someone who loves a good page-turner then this is definitely the book for you. It isn’t too long and the chapters are relatively short; getting straight to the point. Although the whole plot is a little farfetched, it is definitely full of suspense and action. Unlike some thrillers which may seem overly dark or confusing this one is easier to get into making it a great pick for anyone new to the genre. This book is a must-read for any thriller lovers out there - it’s fast paced, suspenseful and full of twists that will keep you hooked. Unlike some thrillers which may seem overly dark or confusing this one is easier to get into making it a great pick for anyone new to the genre.
