ABBY KELTS Broomfield , Colorado

“ I wanted to be a part of Legends of Ranching to grow my skills in colt starting and training . I also wanted to learn more about the Equine Industry , and work on branching out into that a bit . Additionally , I wanted to network and meet more professionals in our industry , and to learn as much from them as possible . In particular , I wanted to learn more about the western side of the Equine Industry , having primarily ridden english . In general , I love all opportunities to work with , train , and bond with horses .”

“ I joined LOR because I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone and take on something I had never done , or even thought I was capable of doing . I wanted to test my riding skills at a new level by learning how to start a colt and teach basic tasks to a horse that is still figuring things out . More than anything , I wanted to improve my communication with a horse and learn how to be clear , patient , and effective in my cues . I also joined LOR to build confidence in myself as a rider and work through the nervousness that comes with new challenges .”

“ As a Colorado native , CSU had always been in the back of my mind but it wasn ' t until I learned about the Legends of Ranching program that I really had a direction for my future . Being from a non - agricultural background , the opportunity to learn from so many talented industry professionals and grow alongside my young horse was very exciting . This program has not only motivated me to improve my horsemanship but also allowed me to find my path as a student in the DVM program class of 2030 here at CSU .”
