T here was a very i n t e r e s t i n g question asked in the long ago. It is found in Judges 6:13 and appears to be a very natural query. Some of us may have asked it ourselves, “If the Lord be with us, where then are all his miracles?” Gideon asked that question which is recorded for us. Some of you may have loved ones who belong to the Gideons. This is a wonderful organization dedicated to the distribution of God’s Word. This man, from whom the society derives its name, was concerned about God’s continued guidance in his service. Perhaps we have found ourselves in a similar position. We read in the Bible about miracles of old, the ax head that swam, the water that was turned into wine, peo ple who were brought back from the dead; the Scriptures contain many. The natural thing is for us to ask, “Yes, but what about things more re cently? What will God do in my life?” Those five words, “Where be all his miracles,” set the tone of human na ture. If we would only stop to realize it, the Lord is performing miracles all the time. Your heart is by God’s mi raculous creation. Did your mother or father know how to work that out? Did the doctor know how it could be done? Of course not for only God can give life? I brought babies into the world for 37 years. I have never found out when a baby’s heart starts to beat. I didn’t do .it nor did its parents. That heart, however, will stop some day. That is true of all of us. None of us know when that will be. This is in the hands of the Lord. As another example, just think what a miracle your breathing is. How is it that whether awake or .asleep you breathe 18 times a minute? You don’t do it consciously; it is the way God made us. Then, what is it that keeps the blood going? How do we con

stantly keep building up new blood? No one can fully understand the mys tery of human life. We may have the theories, but we cannot reproduce what only God can do. For another aspect of the Lord’s goodness, let me ask you: What make» flowers bloom when they do? How is it that some have five petals while others have only six? Who so designed them that they would re produce in such a fashion? Who can even begin to duplicate what God has done? Did you know that the air you breathe is a miracle. God made it so that it would be in perfect balance. When He did this we don’t know. The proportion, however, is always right. Why, if He let the air change for two minutes, none of us would be alive. Other combinations of these chemical elements are impossible. Then, how is it that the lungs take the air and put it into our blood supply? No one knows, of course. When you eat food you don’t know what part is going to make hair or what part is going to make bone. Have you any idea? Why, beloved, if you tried to figure that out you would arrive at only impossible conclusions. We are just content to eat up everything and perhaps thank the Lord for it. You- see, we just live a miracle in a world all around us which is also a miracle. When Gideon asks, “Where be all his miracles?” he is talking about some of those great things that hap pened in nature. Whatever h a p p e n e d to Khru shchev? No one knows fully. All of a sudden the hearts of his friends were turned against him. He was on the top and then he landed at the bottom. Who can explain the salt in the ocean? Do you know what makes it so? I once asked a university professor about this. He told me that since all the rivers run into the sea, and since 21
