Inside the Bustling Heart of the Biggest Chiropractic Trade Show ALIGNING EXPERTISE

2024 AUG

Florida lays claim to many distinctions, from its 237 days of year-round sunny weather to having more pickleball players than any other state in the country. It may come as no surprise that Florida is also the scene of the world’s biggest chiropractic trade show.

We will be featuring other recent additions to our product line. For clinicians looking to enhance the aesthetic appeal of their clinics or homes, we will be exhibiting posters from another recent acquisition, the “Fine Art of Healing” Series by Donna Krin Korkes. Korkes’ colorful interpretive oil paintings are based on X-rays of various parts of the body, and her work has graced the set of “Grey’s Anatomy” and the halls of many well-known medical institutions. Our PrimeKinetix products, including the PostureMedic posture- training device, the MyoBalls massage product, and the PCore lower back brace, will also be on display. Also, we are delighted that our booth space is adjacent to our great friends at Accurate Manufacturing, maker of Comfort Gel Packs.

Orlando (which also happens to be the amusement park capital

of the nation) is hosting The National by FCA this month, a

Florida Chiropractic Association trade show that is expected to draw 3,000 attendees and 400 exhibits. We will be among them. This show affords us an especially good opportunity to visit with our longtime customers and meet new ones, see new and exciting products, and deepen our ties with old friends. Orlando in mid-August can be hot, and we expect the free samples of our latest new product offering, Superieur Electrolytes, to be a big hit with attendees. (In this newsletter, you can read more about Superieur Electrolytes and its founder, Seth Bovio.) This beverage is unique in its category for using actual plant and berry extracts and naturally occurring sea minerals. As the epicenter of the pickleball world, Florida also generates high demand for chiropractic care for pickleball elbow, knee and ankle sprains, quadricep and hamstring strains, plantar fasciitis, neuropathy, and other ailments common among fans of this fast-growing sport. One of our most popular products for these patients is AIRfeet RELIEF moving insoles, which can be placed over orthotic devices or directly on the insole of a shoe. Wayne Purcells, the president of AIRfeet, will be attending The National by FCA and conducting demos of his popular products at our booth.

This huge show allows our customers and other visitors to make memories and have fun. After our longtime customer Chance Wunderlich of Wunderlich Chiropractic Clinic in Cape Coral, Florida, won our Yeti cooler giveaway two years ago, he gathered with his family members to pose for a photo. Many of Chance’s family members are very tall — except his aunt,

who is quite diminutive. To elevate her to her relatives’ level, Chance had his aunt stand on the Yeti cooler, enabling her to look Chance straight in the eye. The outcome had us all laughing. This exchange is just one example of why this show is so valuable. It allows me to see so many of our valued customers face to face and hear firsthand about their goals, needs, and concerns. The experience recharges me every year with renewed energy to help our customers serve their patients with the

latest and greatest products at a reasonable price. If you visit the show, come by our booth and say hi. We will be happy to see you!

More Than Just the Numbers

NATU

SUPERIE NATURE’

In the world of health and fitness, it’s easy to get lost in the numbers — constantly checking the scale, measuring waistlines, and obsessing over every calorie. However, renowned celebrity fitness trainer Harley Pasternak offers a refreshing perspective with his five fundamentals of health and wellness, which focus more on lifestyle habits rather than the numbers that often define our fitness journeys. 1. Daily Steps: Harley emphasizes the importance of movement. Rather than spending hours in the gym, he advocates for getting your daily steps in. This could mean taking a brisk walk in the morning, opting for the stairs instead of the elevator, or even pacing during phone calls. FOCUS ON THESE 5 WELLNESS PRACTICES FROM HARLEY PASTERNAK

Seth Bovio was relaxing on the beach after an invigorating run in the sand when the idea came to him.

He already had decades of experience formulating healthful products for elite athletes and co-founding and selling a successful herbal products company with

an Olympic runner as his partner. Looking out at the ocean on that day about 10 years ago, “I made up my mind that I was going to start another company,” says Bovio, a lifelong runner. “And this time, I decided, ‘We aren’t going to make any compromises.’” That meant no changes in the pure ingredients he envisioned for an electrolyte drink sourced directly from nature. And he resolved to “do everything ourselves,” without third-party manufacturers, Bovio says. “We’re not going to bring on investors; we’re going to pay for it ourselves, and we’re going to do it right in front of my kids.”

2. Unplugging: It’s too easy to be glued to our phones all day. Setting boundaries not to check emails after a particular hour or dedicating time to read a book or meditate, for example, will help maintain a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. 3. Stress Management: Managing stress is another pillar of Harley’s approach. Chronic stress can lead to a host of health issues, including heart disease, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. Incorporating daily practices like deep breathing exercises, yoga, or even short walks can significantly mitigate stress levels. 4. Healthy Diet: Nutrition plays a crucial role in overall wellness. Instead of counting every calorie, concentrate on the quality of the food you’re consuming. Hydration is also crucial!

Ten years later, Bovio heads a thriving business called Superieur Electrolytes. The company is named for the French spelling of Lake Superior, near where Bovio’s wife Vickie grew up, and she serves as art director. One of Bovio’s four sisters is a partner, a friend helps with packaging, and “early on, my kids were putting stickers on canisters and putting packets in boxes, and a lot of neighborhood kids helped,” he says. “It’s a family and friends business, and we all have fun doing what we’re doing.” Reading the label of Bovio’s products is a nutrition lesson. “Our product is different from anything on the mass market. Sourcing from nature is our competitive advantage,” he says. Superieur Electrolyte powder contains Himalayan sea salt, which has 80 additional healthful minerals, compared with the two minerals, sodium and chloride, found in ordinary table salt in mass-market beverages. Flavor comes from the ascerola berry, the essence of raspberry, and extracts from stevia

5. Resistance Exercises: Resistance training is fundamental to building muscle, burning fat, and increasing metabolic rate. Harley suggests incorporating simple resistance exercises into your routine, such as squats, lunges, or push-ups, which you can do anywhere. You gain direct control over your health and wellness by shifting focus from the scale to these five key areas. Remember, the numbers on a scale are merely indirect results of your daily habits. Focusing on these actionable and controllable aspects of your lifestyle means you don’t need to worry about the scale. You’re building a foundation for a healthier, happier life.

leaf and bamboo stems, leaving none of the super-sweet, metallic aftertaste of lab-made sweeteners in competing products. Superieur Electrolytes also contain magnesium sourced from inland seawater. Research shows the body can’t always absorb minerals unless they are contained in food. Superieur Electrolyte powder has just enough carbs from organic white rice to enable its minerals to be absorbed in the intestine. This is another major failing of mass-

market products, Bovio says. “If a good-looking person on TikTok says, ‘This is what I use,’ and if the label says ‘zero calories,’ then people’s reaction is, ‘I’ll have three of them,’” Bovio says. “People know they need electrolytes but don’t know what they are or where they come from. No foods from the garden or the tree, the ones we use, have zero calories. We need calories to get meaningful mineral absorption. And all the electrolytes are minerals.” Bovio’s interest in the topic started when he brought his mother, an elite runner, bottles of electrolytes formulated especially for her. “She used to win every race she entered and beat most of the

products to the chiropractic profession. The powder comes in seven flavors, including a new “Lola Lemon” formulated by Bovio’s youngest daughter. He has also achieved his goal of showing his children what it takes to start a business. Bovio’s daughters, now 14, 16, and 20, lead busy lives and are doing well, he says. “If anything matters to me, it’s for them to be happy and strong and know that they can do what they want to do. I wanted to show them that I could do what I wanted to do. That’s the ‘why’ of this business.”

men she ran against,” he says. Bovio also formulated products for USA Track & Field earlier in his career. Users of Superieur Electrolytes include some elite athletes, but the bulk of sales are to older adults, including people with diabetes, neuropathy, cancer, and other ailments. Bovio distributes Superieur Electrolytes worldwide in 70-serving containers and individual packets, and Chiro1Source has teamed up with them to offer the

Why Birds Sing in the Morning 4

THE DAWN CHORUS

REASONS BEHIND BIRDS’ MORNING SONGS OPENING ACT All bands have an opener, and all great acts need to practice to reach their full potential. According to a report by PBS, another theory as to why birds sing their loudest in the morning is that they are warming up and will sing multiple times throughout the day. NESTING GROUNDS We can all agree there is nothing more irritating than the constant chirping of a bird first thing in the morning. So, it makes sense that birds sing to ward off competition. They want to let other birds in the area know this is their turf and do not want to share it with anyone else. One theory posits that male birds tend to sing in the earliest hours of the morning because it’s the most dangerous time of day for them, and they prove their strength and value as a mate by braving it anyway.

Birds join together in the early morning hours — usually around 4 a.m. — in a chirping symphony, which scientists call the “dawn chorus.” I know what you’re thinking: That would be a great band name! You are correct; it would be, but it is also an astounding fact of nature that many birds choose to sing in the morning at great volume. There’s a reason for this behavior, or at least a couple of theories, and you can read about them here! LOVE BIRDS Birds are romantics at heart, and they start every morning with a lovesong in the hopes of stirring up romance — or, more accurately, finding a mate. It is primarily the male birds singing, and science shows that their ballads are loudest in the early morning hours. This is likely not to increase the range of their song but to increase its audibility and consistency, granting them the strongest chance of landing a partner.
