ACTIVE ADULTS & SENIORS
ART CLUB-TUESDAY Come and join our weekly drop-in art group from 9:00-11:30 am. We work in all mediums including watercolor, oils, acrylics, colored pencils, mosaics and more. This art group is appropriate for all skill levels from beginner to advanced. BUNCO CLUB-1ST & 3RD WEDNESDAY Bunco is an old parlor dice game. Please join us on the first and third Wednesday of Our Canasta Club plays Hand and Foot version from 11:30 am-3:00 pm every Monday. Participants should have a basic understanding of how to play the game, as the drop-in format is designed for active play and does not include formal instruction or lessons. If it has been a while since you’ve played, we encourage you to stop by, observe a few games, and get comfortable with the flow before joining in. CRIBBAGE CLUB-THURSDAY The Cribbage Club meets the second and fourth Thursday of the month from 9:30 am-noon. If you are interested in learning, need a refresher, or want more information, the month from 1:30-3:00 pm CANASTA CLUB-MONDAY The Dominoes Club meets every Friday from 9:00-11:30 am to play Mexican Train Dominoes. Participants should have a basic understanding of how to play the game, as the drop-in format is designed for active play and does not include formal instruction or lessons. DOMINOES CLUB-FRIDAY Drop-In Programs The following activities take place at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, at 305 Jackson Avenue unless otherwise noted. WOODCARVING-TUESDAY If you like to work with your hands and you like working with wood, you will enjoy this group. Bring your own materials and tools. The fun is in the creation. This program meets every Tuesday from 9:00 am until noon. DUPLICATE BRIDGE Duplicate Bridge meets on Tuesdays from 9:00 am-noon at the Fort Hill Activity Center and Fridays from 5:30-9:00 pm at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center. Participants need to know how to play the game. For more information about the Tuesday group, contact Larry Lucas at 630-347-7513. MAHJONG CLUB-FRIDAY American Mahjong is played on Fridays from 11:30 am-2:30 pm. If you plan to join this group but have not played before, free beginner lessons are available SOME Thursdays from 12:00-2:00 pm by appointment only. To make an appointment, send an email request to nita@barshefsky. com. PINOCHLE-TUESDAY The pinochle club meets on Tuesdays and Fridays from noon to 3:00 pm. If you haven't played before, but have played other bidding and trick-taking card games, you will enjoy learning pinochle. Join us for an enjoyable afternoon of cards, conversation, strategy, and fun. Whether you’re a seasoned player or completely new to the game, we are happy to teach and encourage new participants. *POOL (Billiards) Pool is available Monday-Friday from Social Bridge is held every Tuesday from 1:00-3:30 pm and Thursday from noon- 3:00 pm. *TABLE TENNIS Calling all table tennis fans! A table is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 am-4:00 pm in the game room. Find a partner and join us for some fun and exercise. WALKING CLUB-MONDAY Each Monday at 9:30 am, the walking group will gather at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center upstairs lobby to take a refreshing walk in our surrounding parks and neighborhoods or along the Riverwalk. When the sidewalks and paths are icy, the group meets at an indoor location such as a mall. The group leader will make that determination and contact members when the group will begin to walk indoors. If you are new, please call 630-848-5000 to confirm the departure location. BOOK EXCHANGE We are always happy to receive your donations of books at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center. Books are located in the Game Room. *Due to the popularity of Pool (Billiards) and Table Tennis, please check in at the front desk to add your name to the reservation sheet. Reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis for one-hour time slots. To help provide fair access and availability for everyone, reservations are available in person only and cannot be made in advance or by phone. Are you passionate about a hobby, game, or activity and interested in bringing people together? The Park District is looking for volunteers to help start and lead new drop-in programs for active adults. Whatever your shared interest, we’d love to hear your ideas. Volunteer leaders help create welcoming, social opportunities for the community while staff provide support with space and scheduling.
