EXISTING CONDITIONS / SITE ANALYSIS The stadium synthetic turf is a monofilament fiber with a rubber / sand infill system. The fiber wear appears to be consistent with this type of turf, its age and use. The expected lifespan of this type of field is 8 – 12 years dependent on use patterns and maintenance procedures. The field was constructed in summer of 2010 indicating it will be entering into its 15 th season of use. The synthetic fiber tops are breaking down as the field ages. Evidence of fiber accumulation during cleaning processes and clumping of fiber along sidelines as it gets pushed from the field of play is a clear indication of fiber breakdown. Also, the existence of the infill / crumb rubber on the surface of the turf indicated the fibers have broken down to a level which cannot accommodate the originally installed infill depth. The most recent G-max report identifies all infill depth at .75” and under. Testing from 2015 indicated an average infill depth of 1.23”, (see Appendix for G-max testing) further indication that fiber breakdown is occurring. G-max testing results are still well withing the ASTM standards, however, footing performance issues are of concern. Following are pictures identifying the described conditions:
