2014 Fall

Sunbeams glisten through the leaves, illuminating the touch of morning fog. We’re driving through Mississippi’s gently rolling forests—tinted by fall foliage—on what might look like any country road. But this scenic two-lane roadway with its swerving turns and straight-arrow stretches was in fact a superhighway of yesteryear. Our pace is leisurely; the speed limit is only 50 miles per hour. Horn- blowing 18 wheelers are nowhere in sight. It’s my first time on the Natchez Trace Parkway, one of America’s most historic roadways.
