CHAPTER NEWS CENTENNIAL

A century ago, on the eve- ning of October 28, 1924, Kappa Alpha Psi® brothers gathered in the crimson and cream-decorated ‘Gold Room’ at Harrison’s Café, a staple of the Washington, D.C. Black community. This Smoker was the first get-together of the newly chartered Washington (DC) Alumni Chapter following their establish- ment on October 15, 1924. The well-attended affair at the modest residential Victorian townhouse contrasts with the chapter’s success and accomplishments acquired over the past century, celebrated during its centennial anniversary on October 12, 2024, at the lavish Presidential Ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria, situated on the edge of downtown Washington, D.C. The centennial affair was attended by 420 guests and featured Senior Grand Vice Polemarch Robert Jenkins, Esq. as its keynote speaker. Laurel Wreath Laureates Thomas A. Moorehead and Carl Anderson were among the notables present. DC Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie presented the chapter with a resolu- tion commemorating the historic day. DC Alumni brothers were smartly attired for this black-tie function and accompanied by their fashionably dressed Silhouettes and significant others. Violinist Brother Walter L Peacock, III performed during the reception. Guests danced and were entertained by the music selections from a live band, The Future. Celebrants enjoyed a variety of six butler-passed hors d’oeuvres,
