JACKSONVILLE (FL) ALUMNI TURNS 100

T he Jacksonville (FL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. com- memorated its centennial chartering on February 27, 2025, at its Centennial History Unveiling Reception in Jacksonville, FL, at the Ritz Theatre & Museum in historic LaVilla. LaVilla is com- monly referred to as the “Harlem of the South” in the 1920s during the chapter’s chartering. Local elected officials, community leaders, family members, and supporters assembled to witness the past century of achieve- ments and contributions of the chapter and its members to the city of Jacksonville and the community at

large. This celebration was part of a yearlong celebration of activities with the theme “Celebrating 100 Years … Led by faith, Inspired by Community, Grounded in Achievement.” CHAPTER CHARTERING Jacksonville (FL) Alumni Chapter (JAC) was chartered on February 27, 1925, thus becoming the first Black Greek-letter organization in Jackson- ville and the state of Florida. Its initial roster of officers and charter members were Lemuel Bolton (Polemarch), Dr. I. A. White (Vice Polemarch), Deaver P. Young (Keeper of Records), Oliver Dukes (Strategus), Dr. S. Spearing Campbell (Lt. Strategus), J. R. E.
