brotherhood and, in Kappa tradition, hosted its inaugural Black and White Ball in 1958, noted as the highlight of the chapter’s social calendar with “pomp and circumstance, refinery, and elegance” to describe this formal occasion of Kappa men, their loved ones and invited guests at their best. The ball continued through the 1990s before it dissipated, resurging in 2019, and continues to be a grand social affair to this present day. The chapter also ventured to acquire real estate. In 1968, the chapter purchased the home of Dr. William R. Muldrow at 5736 Teeler Ave. reno- vated to be the “Kappa Kastle”, which became a focal point for chapter activi- ties and a gathering place. The chapter moved into another property in 1985 at 3717 W. Moncrief Rd., acquired from the estate of Kiptas Green located at 3717 Moncrief Road West which the chapter currently utilizes as the Kappa Memorial House and will be the future site of the Dr. Charles B. McIntosh Community Achievement Center. Guide Right has been a fundamental aspect of the chapter since the 1920s,
assisting high school seniors to choose and pursue useful careers. Polemarch Lawrence V. Jones was elected Pole- march in 1971 and organized the local Kappa League program in the Jackson- ville community having been inspired after serving as a delegate for the 1969 Grand Chapter Meeting and the Southern Province Council. The program has grown to be the premiere youth organization in the city of Jacksonville, attributing to the mentorship of hundreds of young men and the recipient of the following accolades: three Gates Millenium Scholars; Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. National Jay Crosby Outstanding Guide Right/Kappa League Chapter and Bert V. Wadkins Outstanding Guide Right Kappa League Director of the Year; National Student of the Year and Leon W. Steward Outstanding Guide Right Kappa League Member; Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Southern Province Jay Crosby Out- standing Guide Right/Kappa League Chapter; Southern Province Student of the Year; Southern Province Leon W. Steward Outstanding Guide Right
Kappa League Member; and NPHC First Coast Alumni/MyVillageProject Jacksonville Achievers. In 1994, the chapter hosted its Inaugural Charity Golf Tournament established by Tommy J. Chandler, Henry R. Daniels, Dr. Frank S. Eman- uel, and Dr. Leroy Polite, leading the way to the formation of The Kappa Alpha Psi Jacksonville Foundation, Inc. founded and incorporated on Decem- ber 29, 1997, by John F. Burrell, Cassius Priestly, and Fred Knight. This com- mittee selected Tony D. Nelson as the first president in the 1999-2000 year after completing its work of identifying other directors. From inception by these founding members to the influ- ential leaders of this organization make for 20+ years of leadership and service to the community. Since 1997, the Foundation has sought to transform the lives of youth through specialized training in the areas of life skills, lead- ership, financial literacy, health, and information technology. In addition, the Foundation has provided over $550,000 in academic scholarships to deserving high school graduates.
