CHAPTER NEWS CENTENNIAL
The chapter established an impact in the community and focused on build- ing partnerships through recognizing community leaders and scholars at its public meeting. The chapter hosted its inaugural Public Meeting on Thursday, May 1, 2008, in the City Hall Chambers in Jacksonville, with 7th Southern Prov- ince Polemarch Dr. Frank S. Emanuel serving as the Master of Ceremony. The event showcased the Kappa Alpha Psi Jacksonville Foundation Scholarship recipients and the Caroline A. Cody Scholarship. Community honorees included the ACLU- Jacksonville Chapter, Daniel Webster Perkins Bar Association, Duval County Supervisor of Elections Office, NAACP-Jackson- ville Branch, City Officials, and State Representatives. Fraternal honorees included the Chapter Polemarchs of the Jacksonville Alumni Chapter; Jackson- ville Silhouettes; Dr. Solomon Badger, III, gubernatorial appointee to the Flor- ida A&M University Board of Trustees; Tommy J. Chandler, public health advo- cate; William Surcey, Tuskegee Airman mechanic; J. Cliff Warren, Head Coach Jacksonville University Dolphins; and Lt. Col. (Retired) Alton Yates, recipient of the Governor’s Medal of Merit. The public meeting series continued to recognize community stalwarts and scholars until 2018. 1992; and the Jacksonville University Chapter, the Omicron Delta chartered March 27, 1998. The undergraduate chapter members traditionally have one representative attend the alumni chap- ter business meetings and share any activities scheduled within their chapter and on their respective campuses. In turn, the alumni chapter polemarch meets with the undergraduate chap- ters regularly to preserve the level of involvement between the alumni and undergraduate chapters. The chapter supports the undergraduate chapters by attending undergraduate service initiatives and fundraisers and involving them in alumni chapter
activities. In the Kappa spirit of “Train- ing for Leadership,” the JAC encourages undergraduate members to seek opportunities for achievement and recognition on their campuses, within the Southern Province and Grand Chapter of the Fraternity. This relation- ship-building has led to an increase in undergraduates transitioning into the alumni chapter upon graduation. CHAPTER RECOGNITION The chapter has been fortunate to host Grand Polemarchs in the city, includ- ing 29th Grand Polemarch Ronald R. Young, 30th Grand Polemarch Samuel
