the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence; and with the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He also served as Deputy Command- ing General of the Army Military Personnel Center in Alexandria, Virginia. The US Army bestowed the Silver Star to Greer for his actions during the Korean Conflict by calling artillery fire onto his position to enable an infantry company to withdraw safely. General Greer’s other awards and decorations include: Bronze Star of Valor; Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster; Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster; Air Medal; Viet- namese Cross of Gallantry; Joint Service Commendation Medal and; Distinguished Service Medal . After retiring from active duty In 1976, Greer moved his family the El Paso area where he entered the real

community and served as chairman of the Officers Retiree Council for Fort Bliss and on local boards for the American Cancer Society, Visiting Nurses Association, Association of U.S. Army, and the Associa- tion of El Paso Realtors. He wase inducted into the inaugural class of the El Paso Black Hall of Fame on March 1. Brother Edward Greer was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Jewell Means Greer; his daughter, Gail Sharon Lyle; and son Ken- neth Wayne Greer (Gamma Lambda 1978). He is survived by son Dr. Michael Edward Greer; son-in-law Steve Bryant; and his grandchildren Lisa Gail Cobb, Alissa Renee Maru, Vaun Michael Greer and Tia Greer; along with seven great-grandchildren, Melia, Morgan, Maya (Cobb), Zinzi (Maru), Clarke, Jude and AK Greer. ♦

After graduating in 1962 from East St. Louis, IL’s Lincoln Senior High School, Flowers attended Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Carbondale, IL where he earned a B.S. degree in biological sciences in 1968. After graduation, Flow- ers worked in a career in pharmaceutical sales for Mallinckrodt Chemical and then Ciba Geigy, often serving as the first or only black salesman in his early career. He moved the family to Chicago and later to the suburbs of Chicago. During his time in Chicago, Flowers was a member of Chicago (IL)

polemarch [1980-1982]. He also coached the chess club and taught math at Robeson High School in his spare time, sharing his strategic mind with young students. He later attended McDonald Corporation’s “Hamburger University” to train to become a fran- chise owner/operator. The opportunity to purchase a McDonalds franchise in his hometown of East St. Louis, IL led him back home where he recon- nected with friends and classmates and touched the lives of young people through his dedicated work ethic, friendly voice, and welcoming demeanor. After selling the franchise, Dwight moved to Omaha,
