Flowers, Sr., was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Joan, sister Annie (Flowers) Thompson and brother F. Lamar Flowers. He is survived by son Dwight (Debbie) Jr. (St. Louis (MO) Alumni 2019); daughter Sylvia; three grandchildren Dwight III “Trey” Flowers, Aniya Flowers, and Zahra Ansari and companion and partner Evelyn Haywood. ♦
D r. Carlton J. Floyd DDS (Beta Theta 1968) of Aurora, CO, entered the Chapter Invis- ible on January 16, 2023, at the age of 76. Floyd was born in Birmingham, Alabama to Carl J. Floyd and Rosa Lee Grier-Floyd on December 22, 1946. When Floyd was an infant, his family moved to Pueblo, CO where he excelled academically and athletically. He graduated from Centennial High School in 1964 and earned a basketball scholarship to the University of Northern Colorado. In 1966, he trans- ferred to Colorado State University and enrolled in ROTC, earning a military scholarship. In 1968, Floyd graduated with honors with a degree in physical therapy. On the same day of graduation, he formally enlisted in the United States Army, boarded a plane, and reported to boot camp. In 24 hours, Floyd went from a Buck Private

to a 2nd Lieutenant. He worked as an Occupational Therapist helping amputees from the Vietnam War and other veterans at Letter- man Army Hospital in San Francisco, CO. He later earned a mas- ter’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of Colorado and later received a Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1980. Floyd holds the distin- guished honor of becoming the first African American male to graduate from the University of Colorado School of Dentistry. During this time, he met Jeri, who would become his wife, the mother of his two daughters, and partner of 35 years. Floyd retired in 1996 as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Dental Corp
as an Oral & Maxillofa- cial Surgeon. In 1995, he opened his private den- tistry practice in Aurora, CO, and retired in March 2013. Floyd also main- tained a Colorado realtor license since 1973. He was a member of the Denver (CO) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Frater- nity, Inc. and was a past president of the American College of Oral and Maxil- lofacial Surgeons. Brother Carlton J. Floyd was preceded in death by his late wife Jerilyn (Jeri) Floyd and his father. He is survived by his daughters, Adrienne D. Floyd and Carolyn J. Floyd; his mother Rosa Lee Floyd (Aurora, CO); brothers Leonard Floyd, Kenneth Floyd, and Timothy Floyd. ♦
