John E. Rose, SR., 1928–2023 Retired Postmaster, U.S. Army

T he Denver (CO) Rose, Sr.. who entered the Chapter Invisible on April 5, 2023, at age 94. Rose was born in Denver, CO, on July 18, 1928, the third child and second son of five children born to Paul Leslie Rose and Faye Helen Rose. He attended school in the Denver Public School district including Wittier Elementary, Cole Junior High, and Manual High School. Rose attended Alumni mourns the passing of John E. the University of Colora- do-Boulder and studied math and science and was working towards a degree to become a pharmacist. He was drafted into the US Army and served overseas in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged. After returning from the Korean War in 1953, Rose worked at the United States Post Office until he retired in 1984 as Postmaster over the Montclair Post Office. Rose was poisoned during his service in the Korean War and was forced to go

onto dialysis in 1999, as both kidneys had failed from the poisoning decades earlier. Rose was very active in the community and strived to make life better for others. He served as the Head of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) for the State of Colorado. He served as President and Vice President of the Denver, Colorado Chapter before serving as Head of the State DAV. Rose testified twice before the U.S. Congress on behalf of Dialysis Patients. He was on hemodialysis for over 24 years and was very diligent in making sure he attended his dialysis every other day. A Life Member of the Fraternity, Rose was a 1949

initiate of the University of Colorado Boulder Chapter, the Beta Theta of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Rose loved the fraternity and was very active with the Denver (CO) Alumni Chap- ter. He was active with the fraternity for over 74 years and was the longest-ten- ured Kappa in the Denver (CO) Alumni Chapter at his passing. Rose financially supported the Guide Right & Kappa League programs annually. Rose also firmly believed in the Denver (CO) Alumni Scholarship program and was a major contributor annually supporting the Denver (CO) Alumni Scholarship Programs. The family has

endowed a scholarship in his name to honor a deserving youth to attend college. His scholarship is a four- year award and presented annually. The Denver (CO) Alumni Scholarship Foun- dation has donated over $1.25 million in scholarships since 1972 to high-achieving young undergraduate men. Brother John E. Rose, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents Paul Leslie Rose and Faye Helen Rose. He is survived by nine loving children, John Jr., Maria, Cheryl, Debbie (Randy), Allen, Margie, Kevin, Karen, and Kara and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. ♦
