I mmediate Past Senior Kappa Affairs National Chairman John L. Stewart, Jr. (Gamma Epsilon 1967) entered the Chapter Invisible on January 31, 2025. He was born on October 4, 1946, in Tuskegee, AL, to the late John L. Sr. (Tau 1940) and Vivian L. Goree-Stewart. He graduated from Tuskegee Institute High School and later earned a bachelor’s degree from Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University). Stewart served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971 as a Personnel Spe- cialist, earning the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and recognition as a sharp- shooter. After his honorable discharge, Stewart had a distinguished career in the transportation and logistics industry. He worked for Southern Pacific Trans- portation Company and American President Lines in California before retiring in 2009 as Director of Inter- modal Operations for Pacer

Tracy Howard, Lynne Melvin, Karmen Stewart-Smith (Aki), and Ekeisha Gibbs; and grand- children, Patrick McCrary II, Lauryn Powell, Konnor A. Smith, Jaheim Howard, Jauresee Howard, Javel Howard, and Jari Howard. He is also survived by his sisters, Karen Stewart-Moore, Phyllis Gosa (Richard), and Kaye Wright. ♦ Among Stewart’s Achievements and Honors • Committee Chairman, Southeastern Province Senior Kappa Affairs • Vice Chairman, National Committee, 2010 • The Joseph R. International in Georgia. A Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Stewart held memberships in the Tuskegee (AL) Alumni, Ventura (CA) Alumni, and Alpharetta-Smryna (GA) Alumni Chapters. He was also a charter member of the San Fernando-Santa Clarita (CA) Alumni and the Stockbridge-Jonesboro (GA) Alumni Chapters. In 2014, Grand Pole- march William R. Bates, Jr. named Stewart the National Chairman of the Senior Kappa Affairs Commis- sion (SKAC). Stewart was heavily involved with the SKAC Grant Program which distributes grant funds to deserving Kappa chapters for various purposes ranging from purchasing clothing items for the needy in the community, supplying items for senior citizens, under- writing funds needed for a food pantry, and purchasing of boy scout uniforms.
