HANDICAP POSTING INFORMATION & MORE

SGLNV was founded in 2004 to promote friendly competition between Senior Golfers at Country Clubs in Northern Virginia. Matches are played at scratch on Wednesdays about 10:30 to 11:30 AM. ANCC needs low handicap senior golfers 50 years of age and older to play. For more info, click here, or contact the Team Captains, Lynn Wessman at lwessman@comcast.net and Peter Jacobi at petergeezergolf@comcast.net. SGLNV - SENIOR GOLF LEAGUE OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA

As the 2021 golf season gets underway, the Handicap Committee reminds all players that in order to maintain the integrity of our handicap system, they should post every round played, except when playing alone. Scores should be posted for any format, even when you pick-up without holing out or when you skip holes. This includes playing less than a full 9 or 18 holes. If a player does not hole out, they should assign themselves the score for that hole that they would have most likely have achieved, or, if they skips a hole, their handicapped score for that hole. Guidelines that detail how to post rounds are posted in the golf section of the website. We also remind players that the Handicap Committee monitors the handicap system and has imposed handicap penalties when players fail to post regular play and/or tournament scores. Also new for 2021, all players are required by the USGA to create a digital profile. If you have not yet posted a score in 2021 you will be prompted to set-up your digital profile on your first log-in to your GHIN number. If you have any trouble with the set-up, please contact Jeff Shelton, PGADirector of Administration & Play at jeff.shelton@ancc.org. For additional handicap information and the requirements for maintaining a handicap at ANCC, click here.

The 2021 Stroke Play Championship is scheduled for Saturday, 5 June at FFX, and Sunday, 6 June at ARL. It includes a Men’s and Women’s Divisions. For more info and to enter beginning 5 May, click here.

ANCC SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

The 2021 ANCC Senior Club Championship is the tournament that matches your golf skills 1-on-1with each of your fellow competitors. It will include both a Men’s and Women’s Division for the championship ONLY (Senior Flighted Match Play Tournament will begin in July). For more information and to enter beginning 11 May, click here.

As this golf season gets started our professional golf staff would like to give you a few friendly reminders we can all do to take care of our golf courses: GOLF COURSE REMINDERS The no mow areas on the golf courses are by design. Some are marked as penalty areas and should be played as so according to the Rules of Golf. If a no mow area is not marked as a penalty area, then any ball that enters an unmarked no mow area and is not found is a Lost Ball. While playing your round, if you stroke a ball into the no mow areas, please play a Pro- visional Ball to help with the pace of play. Though the grass in the no mow areas is shorter during the spring, it is not intended for golf cart traffic. You may enter no mow areas in search of a ball, but please DO NOT drive golf carts into these areas. Please observe the golf cart rules for the day. Every effort will be made to maintain the 90º cart rule as often as possible. However, when carts are restricted to paths, please keep all wheels on the paths. At ARL, when taking a divot please fill the scar with sand. There is no need to replace the divot as it will die. The Bermuda grass will fill-in within a few days.

At Fairfax, if the divot is intact with soil attached, please replace it. If the divot has shattered, please fill the scar with sand. Please be sure to repair your ball marks on the green and a couple others at the same time. A properly repaired ball mark will keep our greens looking spectacular all season. The Women’s Nine Hole Golf Organization welcomes all new and returning members to the 2021 season. If you are interested in joining, please contact Membership Chairman: Sally Mitchell at (703) 409-1438 or at mitchellsmm@gmail.com.
