Sowing process #1
Sowing conditions. • Trays : 288 cells. • Substrate: - peat/cocopeat + perlite 10―20%, - pH 5.5―5.9, - EC (SME): 0.5 mS/cm. • Spray to dissolve the seed coating. 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

Sowing process #2
There is a specific approach for small seed sowing. To sow small or very fine seeds, such as begonia and petunia seeds, you will need to mix the seeds with fine sand by hand. This will help distribute the seeds more evenly over the surface of the substrate.
Sowing method with fine sand
Suitable for raw Begonia seeds

Germination & 1 st components of success
• Germination process quite long, up to two weeks. • High Air Relative Humidity (%) is necessary: up to 95 % . • But do not overwater begonia! • Light: not required but… lighting is beneficial to reduce the germination time by 1-2 days.
Normally germinated Begonia
• Provide shading in the greenhouse.

Germination & 2 nd components of success
• Media temperature: 22―25 0 C.
21 22 23 24 25 26 27
• Keep warm
condition without Dif. during germination.
• Do not overwater begonia! • Control hypocotyl appearance.

Germination & 3 rd components of success
• Plastic dome is alternative way.
• High pressure fogging system is another option. • Provide shading (or double shading) in the greenhouse.
Common plastic cover
• Shading reduce watering frequency.
• Overwatering promotes algae growth.
Prepare peroxyacetic acid
Double shading
Public
Why high air RH is critical?
• Low air RH can lead to uneven germination.
• And will be the main cause of dumping off.

After germination
Right after germination.
