Park District of Forest Park Stay Close, Go Far
Dear Forest Park Residents, This is the most wonderful time of the year here at the Park District, summertime! One of the first items on our list is bringing back all of our amazing staff. The seasonal team members who join us each year truly keep everything running. Each year we hire around 200 outstanding individuals to join our team or return home to the Park District. We remain committed to providing a safe and welcoming work environment, and we are proud that our seasonal staff return rate is around 80 percent. Over the past few years, the Board and staff have worked together in collaboration with the Village to create wonderful pocket parks throughout town. Thanks to support from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grants, we have been able to build these beautiful parks without adding any additional tax burden. This summer, Main Park renovations will begin. Congratulations to the Board and staff on securing a $600,000 grant to help support this exciting project. Our heavily used playground and turf field will both be renovated. We began the process with preliminary planning, including gathering ideas, creating designs, and testing the soil and applying for permits. Most importantly, we hope to diversify family play opportunities, from a new three-sport lined field to a playground with unique amenities. Thank you to our residents for your continued feedback and input. This summer we are also offering exciting events at our Aquatic Center, including Flick-n’-Floats, Christmas in July, a luau, and many more activities. Don’t forget to purchase your pool pass to guarantee entry and enjoy these additional pass- holder benefits. We also look forward to seeing you at our summer concert series as we continue to rock the night away at the Roos Pavilion. Speaking of the Roos, if you need a place to cool off, stop by to shoot some hoops, work out, or take a walk around the gym. The Roos is the coolest place in the park! This summer’s challenge is simple: take a walk in the park, enjoy a picnic in our passive open space along Harrison Street, or relax poolside. We hope to see you doing all three! Jackie Iovinelli
