Deux podiums mondiaux pour Louis Cormier

Il s’est classé quatrième à la résolution avec les pieds. Pour Louis et Antoine, la compétition était également une occasion de rencontrer les grands noms européens et asiatiques du monde du cube Rubik. Ils ont notamment rencontré le détenteur du record pour une résolution du cube 3x3x3, Mats Valk, des Pays-Bas. Le grand gagnant du Championnat mon- dial a été Feliks Zemdegs avec une résolu- tion moyenne du 3x3x3 de 8,18 secondes. Mats Valks a terminé deuxième avec une moyenne de 8,65 secondes.

Un jeune homme de Rockland s’est admi- rablement démarqué au Championnat du monde de Cube Rubik qui a eu lieu à Las Vegas du 26 au 28 juillet. Louis Cormier a remporté le deuxième podium à l’épreuve du mégaminx (puzzle dodécaédrique), et le troisième podium à la résolution du cube avec les pieds. Il s'est aussi rendu en finale dans les disciplines du 4x4x4, pyraminx, 6x6x6 et 7x7x7. De son côté, Antoine Cantin représen- tait également Rockland de même que son pays. Cyclists must obey rules of the road Good summer weather brings out more and more cyclists on the roads and high- ways in the region. The OPP remind cy- clists that they have to follow the same rules that drivers in cars and trucks do. The Ontario Highway Traffic Act defines a bicycle as a vehicle subject to highway traf- fic regulations. Infractions can mean spe- cific fines and victim surcharges, which is $20 in most case, but can be as much $400 ror more for some offences and could also result in impounding of a bike. The main traffic rules that cyclists need to remember include: stop for stop signs and red traffic lights and obey all other warning signs and signals. At a crosswalk any cyclist must yield the right of way to the pedestrian who is al- ready in the crosswalk. Also, cyclist using a crosswalk at an intersection must dismount and walk their bike in the crosswalk. Riding a bike in a crosswalk, regardless whether there are also pedestrians in the crosswalk at the time, means a fine. While school is out now, when school is in session, cyclists must obey the rules regard- ing school buses which are stopped with lights flashing to either pick up or discharge children. All vehicles following behind the bus or in the opposite lane approaching the bus must come to a complete stop and wait for both the flashing lights to stop and the bus to start moving before they can go ahead too.
