QUALITY ASSURANCE

Policy

The Registered Equine Massage Therapist must follow practices determined by the International Federation of Registered Equine Massage Therapists to ensure delivery of high-quality treatment.

Hygiene

Registered Equine Massage Therapists will maintain their premises (including supplies) in a sanitary manner. This includes adherence to techniques of communicable disease control.

Reporting

Registered Equine Massage Therapists will respect all pertinent reporting requirements outlined by legislation regarding cruelty to animals.

All REMT's are obliged to report to the IFREMT any violations of the Standards of Practice or Code of Ethics committed by fellow REMT's.

Competency

The therapist will maintain competency in care delivery. A therapist shall not practice equine massage therapy while impaired by alcohol, drugs, or other substances.

CLIENT CONSULTATION AND CONSENT (Based on the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario)

Policy

All decisions regarding the initiation of a treatment program will be made jointly with the client, or when necessary, with the client's consent advocate. Client consent will be based on informed choice.

Consent to Treatment

Purpose

The consent to Treatment Act establishes the right of people in Ontario to make informed decisions regarding health treatment.

The Act also provides a mechanism to obtain treatment consent or a treatment decision from a patient’s authorized representative.
