Introductory statement on purpose of Code of Ethics and definition of client and therapist.

I. PHILOSOPHY OF CARE

Massage therapy care is based on promoting health, preventing illness and helping individuals attain and maintain the highest level of wellness possible.

As therapists and educators, massage practitioners promote healing, well-being and integration, using the art and science of massage therapy, through responsible, compassionate and respectful touch.

The value of nurturing touch, during the delivery of massage therapy care, is well-established and vital element of good client care.

Equine Massage therapists acknowledge all facets of their clients being, including their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects.

Equine Massage therapists encourage clients to actively participate in their health care and provide information in a way that enables clients to make informed choices.

We respect the diversity of disciplines within the equine industry and are committed to a profession free from discrimination.

The therapeutic relationship is a partnership where the rights of both client and therapist are respected. Trust is essential to the therapist-client relationship and must not be violated or exploited.

Equine Massage therapists are committed to safe, competent care of clients, and are personally responsible for maintaining and expanding initial professional competence.

II. ETHICAL PRACTICE

Equine Massage therapists shall act in a manner that justifies public trust and confidence, enhances the reputation of the profession, and safeguards the interests of individual clients. Equine Massage therapists, in the exercise of professional accountability will: • Accurately inform clients, other equine health care practitioners and the public of the scope and limitations of equine massage therapy. • Provide treatment only when there is a reasonable expectation that it will be advantageous to the horse's condition. • Represent their qualification honestly, including education and professional affiliations, and will perform only those services for which they are qualified. • Safeguard the confidentiality of all client information, unless disclosure is required by law or by order of the court.
