Commitments to Clients are demonstrated by:
A. Ensuring that we always act in our client’s best interest as defined by the client’s wishes and as consistent with the best interests of the subject horse and the standards of practice of Registered Equine Massage Therapists. B. Informing clients of veterinary care services and other horse industry services available to support them. C. Referring to veterinarians as necessary and appropriate, including whenever an animal appears to require veterinary medical treatment. D. Accepting direction and supervision from the veterinarian involved. E. Obtaining assistance, or refusing assignment, when value conflicts arise which threaten to impede client autonomy. F. Providing client-centred equine care which includes the following: i. Explaining to clients and advocating for their rights to receive and take cont rol of information about their horses’ care and conditioning ii. Providing information about the proposed massage therapy, alternative courses of action, the material effects, risks and side effects of equine massage therapy and the consequences of not having the therapy. iii. Assisting clients to comprehend information relating to equine massage therapy. iv. Providing information to clients regarding fees for proposed services prior to treatment.
2. Commitments to Self are demonstrated by:
• Being proactively committed by our own health and personal and professional development. • Being competent, conscientious and empathetic practitioners. • Being aware of our personal values and being able to identify when value conflicts interfere with the horse’s care. • Keeping our professional commitment by integrating the International Federation of Registered Equine Massage Therapy’s values and principles in our daily practices. 3. Commitments to our Professional colleagues are demonstrated by a) representing ourselves honestly and performing only those services for which we are qualified. b) respecting our colleagues and working cooperatively with them. c) reporting to appropriate authorities any practitioner who physically abuses any horse or abuses a client physically, verbally or financially.
