One member of Champlain Township council worries about how safe some of the sidewalks along Highway 34 in Vankleek Hill area. “It’s a safety concern,” said Councillor Paul Émile Duval. The councillor raised the issue during the August 22 session of council. He reported receiving a number of complaints from the Circle View neighbourhood located alongside Highway 34 going into Vankleek Hill. The bulk of complaints expressed concern about the condition of the sidewalks along the section of the road between Vankleek Collegiate Institute and the Tim Horton’s franchise. Councillor Duval asked to have the matter included as part of the public works portion of the 2025 municipal budget discussion that takes place later in the year. He also said that the Ontario transportation ministry may also need to be involved since Highway 34 is classed as a provincial highway. Chief Administrator Kevin Tessier told council that a letter to the transportation ministry expressing concern about the safety of the sidewalks along Highway 34
