Sphingosine and sphinganine serve as precursors to potent signaling molecules, and despite differing in only one double bond, the compounds have functionally distinct roles. Sphingadiene and the sphinganine precursor 3-ketosphinganine also have unique cellular activities. SphingoSPLASH TM II allows researchers to target these compounds for quantitative analysis.
