Virtual Tour: TISH--Shabbat Tablescapes at Mishkan Museum of Art in Israel Led by the exhibition's curator, Dvora Liss, take a virtual tour of TISH-Shabbat Tablescapes at the Mishkan Museum of Art in Israel. Friday night dinners are a deeply ingrained tradition in Israeli culture, observed by families across all backgrounds. Ever since October 7, 2023, the Shabbat table has taken on profound new meaning, symbolizing those who are absent — whether hostages, soldiers on duty, or loved ones lost. This powerful exhibition brings together works by contemporary and early twentieth-century artists alongside Judaica from the museum’s collection, offering a poignant reflection on tradition, absence, and resilience. The Mishkan Museum of Art, located in Kibbutz Ein Harod, is one of Israel’s most prestigious

museums, renowned for its exceptional collection and exhibitions. RONNIT VASSERMAN (see bio for “Walking Tour: Galleries of Chelsea”). Tuesday, March 18 • 10:00am-11:00am • Zoom • Course 13307 • $20

John Singer Sargent and the Gilded Age

At the end of the nineteenth century, great wealth in America demanded great art, especially portraits of the rich and famous. High society sought out John Singer Sargent, the leading portrait artist of this era, to capture their opulence and glittering personalities that defined the Gilded Age. He also painted intimate portraits of friends, writers, and fellow artists who inspired his life. View many of John Singer Sargent’s most famous portraits, hear biographic details of the artist and his subjects, and see revealing videos that bring to life this new world of opulence in America. Black American Artists Amy Sherald, Kerry James Marshall, and Kehinde Wiley

Throughout the history of Western art, people of color are rarely seen in the paintings and collections of major museums. African American artists Amy Sherald, Kerry James Marshall, and Kehinde Wiley confront this reality by creating powerful images of the Black experience in history, popular culture, and American life in paintings that also echo their own personal journeys as artists finding new ways to express their unique artistic visions. View major works by these artists, learn about their own stories and the stories of the people and subjects they paint, and see video commentary by the artists themselves.
