Walking Tour: Real Clothes, Real Lives at the New York Historical Real Clothes, Real Lives: 200 Years of What Women Wore, the Smith College Historic Clothing Collection , running September 27, 2024 to June 22, 2025 at the New York Historical (formerly the New-York Historical Society) examines the everyday clothing of ordinary women, from hard-worn house dresses to psychedelic micro minis and modern suits to fast-food workers' uniforms. Also on display at New York's first museum are 1890’s sportswear, an early Diane Von Furstenberg jersey wrap dress, vintage, handmade

Walking Tour: Women of Woodlawn Cemetery In honor of Women’s History Month, enjoy a trolley ride while exploring the monuments and mausoleums of the notable women of Woodlawn, a National Historic Landmark and one of the most historically significant cemeteries in the country. Woodlawn is known as the final resting place for several leaders in the women’s suffrage movement, including Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Carrie Chapman Catt who were instrumental in the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment giving women the right to vote. Woodlawn is also the burial site for Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, Celia Cruz (the "Queen of Salsa"), Madam C.J. Walker (America's first self-made female millionaire), and Elizabeth Jane Cochran, better known as Nellie Bly (America's first female investigative reporter). Celebrate the vital role of women in American history at this urban oasis. JOANNA COHLAN has been a volunteer docent at Woodlawn Cemetery for three years, leading tours about Woodlawn’s highlights, notable women, and Jewish American heritage.
