Clarification of Tipping, Minimum Wage Fee & Service
Albany Business Review Top 40 under 40
Some members have questioned how tipping in the Grille Room works and it’s relationship with the Minimum Wage Service Fee that is built into your dues, fees, & Capital. Below is some clarification on that. If is remains unclear, please feel free to contact the office and we will happy to explain. Every "chit" you receive for food and/or beverage in the Grill, BNC, Snack bar or on the course will have a 10% service charge implicitly in it, which comes from this minimum wage service fee. This is used to pay a portion of the salaries of service personnel, kitchen and administrative staff. Any additional write-ins will go directly to your server. This means to say, absent any “write in” on your chit, there is approximately 10% gratuity going to all service personnel. However, if you normally tip 20%, then 10% should be written in. Please note, all write in amounts go directly to your server or bartender. It goes without saying, a gratuity is intended to reward great service. Should you feel your service was not up to “par”, you are encouraged to notify management so that all issues can be addressed in an appropriate manner.

B ANQUET S ERVICE C HARGE , G RATUITY AND T AX : All food and beverage charges are subject to a 15% catering fee and 5% gratuity. Food, beverage and catering fees are subject to 8% sales tax. The monies collected from the Catering fee will be used to pay a portion of the salaries of our Banquet, Kitchen and Administrative Staff. The gratuities will go to your service staff. Additional gratuity is not required, but if your wait staff exceeded your expectations you may leave an additional gratuity that will go directly to the staff who worked your party.
